'SUNFLOWER' GYPSY CARAVAN

The information to build this model was obtained from the full size caravan kept at a Staffordshire Rural Museum.  This early caravan built by Bill Wright around 1850  - 1860 is thought to one of the earliest caravans still in existence.  The sunflower was the forerunner of many gypsy caravans.  This early build was larger, wider and heavier than those, which followed.  The master caravan builder Bill Wright used the sunflower and white horse motifs for decorating his early caravans.

The model is decorated, as near as possible, to match the original.  The decoration to the outside being maroon to the upper area and off-white to the lower and undercarriage sections.  The inside is painted blue and white, as is the original.  All highly decorated with a total of over 400 sunflower and white horse motifs.  The roof lifts off for easy viewing of the inside detail.
