POT WAGGON No 1.
Another interesting model in 1/8th
scale. The original vehicle was located at Acton Scott Farm Museum in Shropshire, having been bequeathed to the museum by an old Gypsy, much against his family's wishes. When this waggon arrived at the museum it was in the form of a caravan - a covered Open Lot. The Museum's technicians stripped the 'caravan' down and rebuilt it in the form of an Open or Pot waggon. Whilst taking the initial details and principal dimensions it soon became apparent that these did not add up to this vehicle being an ordinary waggon. However, the dimensions did indicate that they were more appropriate to a caravan construction. For example: - the turntable was too large, the body was too high for easy loading and unloading. The width (4ft) too narrow in relation to the length (10ft) to sleep across the width.
After obtaining further permission to carry out an in-depth investigation, two days were spent collecting information that wood enable the model to be built. It was decided that the model should embody all the details
and features as recorded, plus the elements of the covered waggon. It was a challenge to build and the model became known as the "Bag-Tent" - short for baggage tent. The Gypsies certainly did use vehicles of this type and hence
this model shows yet another part of their vehicular tradition. The Pot waggon is not furnished, but is highly decorated.
