Doubt

Who are you?
Are you the friend
That I thought you to be?
Or are you someone
Who simply poses
As a shoulder to lean on
That will vanish
At the first sign of need?
In this superficial world
I know not who to trust
And believe in
Lest my heart be exposed
And smashed into a hundred pieces
Littering the ground for anyone to step on
Do I take your friendship
Or shy away
Keeping myself safe from harm
In my solid brick encasement
Instead of the glass house
You have offered me
Is it time
To thrust myself into the open
And do away with this lonely world
Where there is only myself
I know not what to do
I have no one to ask
No one who will listen
Except for you. . .
