What is Fariha? My Nationality

Hi I am Fariha Mughal, You probably came to this page with info about me because I sent you here.I am Asian as I really dont have any proper Asian roots as My parents were born and brought up in East Africa and so were their parents. I say I am Pakistani. It is an identity I am proud of.

Many people ask how I can have Kenyan roots and still be Pakistani its simple My ancestors emigrated from India in the 19th century to help build railroads in Kenya and most of East Africa. My Paternal Grandmother was born in Kenya her husband was from India though this part of India he was from is now in Pakistan rather than India.

My Maternal Grandfather moved further into East Africa into a country called Uganda. He married my Maternal Grandmother who was a Punjaban from the Now Pakistan. Thats how I get my Punjabi Kuri roots.

When the notorious dictator threw out all the Asians from Uganda for no other reason than that it would annoy the British My Maternal side were forced to make Britain their home as My mother had already married my Father and Moved to Kenya this expulsion didn't affect her

It was during these visits to her Mother in Britain that My Mother was pregnant with me and I don't know why I guess I decided I'd rather be born in London. I am the only member of My immediate family to be born in UK.

As a kid I was ferried between Kenya and England a lot, I went to school in both countries I used to get bullied in both countries at these schools as I had either a cute Londoner accent or a thick Kenyan one

When I was 14 we finally decided to make London our home as Kenya was and is still always unstable. I went to High school in London and college and I also now work in a Boots the Chemist Store in London too. I'd love to visit Kenya I haven't been there since we left, all my memories of the place become vaguer and vaguer. Its one of my dreams to get married and go on honeymoon to the beautiful beach paradise of Mombasa in Kenya just like my parents who have been now married for 30 years did
