"Victims" (New Wars pt.1)

This story takes place six months after the events in Age of Onslaught: Alpha.

Somewhere in Genosha...

In the window of a fortress overlooking the barren wasteland of what was once a flourishing tropical island, stands a lone figure gazing out onto the now broken land. The momentary silence is broken, as one of his many followers enters into the room.

"Forgive me, Lord Nemesis," the larger figure addressed him, kneeling down before his lord and master.

"What is it, ?" demanded Nemesis, turning away from his outlook.

"The Marauders. They have run into some problems, sire." The large mutant answered.

"What kind of problems?"

Elsewhere on Genosha.

The area once known as Carrion Cove, at the very edge of the island. X-Treme and Domino run down the abandoned streets. It seems as if that's all they've been doing since escaping Lucifer's ship. Suddenly, a loud scream for help interrupted the quiet air. X-Treme and Domino exchanged quick glances, before darting off in the direction the cry was coming from.

Down an alley, they find a lone human fighting off four mutants. She was losing. Still, she fought valiantly, until the big mutant caught hold of her. He raised her up slowly, clenching his fist, ready to end her pitiful life, right there and then. Suddenly, just as the helpless girl was about to meet her fate, a throwing blade came searing through the air, piercing through the shocked mutant's hand. The mutants quickly turned to the direction of their assailants. Standing with a slight smirk on her face was Domino, her gun readied, and at her side, throwing blades in hand, stands Adam X, the X-Treme.

"You gotta lotta guts!" bellows the large mutant as he wrenches the throwing blade out of his flesh. He dropped the blonde to the floor, knowing he'll have his fun with her later. A horrible smile emerges across his smug face, as he gives the signal to attack.

The mutants pounce into action, but X-Treme and Domino are already gone. Confused, they look in every direction. Suddenly, a small round object drops down from overhead. The mutants stare down at the object for a moment before registering the full extent of the danger it proves.

"HOLY SHIT!!! A GRENADE!!!!"

BOOM!

From up on one of the many surrounding rooftops, Adam X and Domino look on in amusement.

"Amateurs," spat Domino. "How's the flatscan?"

"I don't know. Are you ok?" asks X-Treme, reaching down to grab her hand. She doesn't say anything. She just looks up at him in a state of both awe and confusion. "I think she'll be fine. Just a little shell-shocked".

Suddenly, gunshots pierce the air, as Adam turns around to see a masked man descend upon them. The masked man lunges at them with his knife. His reflexes proves no match for that of the advanced Shi'ar as X-Treme quickly disarms the attacker, and throws him up against the hard brick wall.

X-Treme grabs a hold of the girl at his side, and dives off of the rooftop down to the alley below. "Find a place to hide!" he warns, releasing her from his grip.

Quickly she manages to run away. Though still dazed and confused, she manages to escape from the confines of the alleyway, escaping off into the cluttered streets of Genosha.

Before Adam has time to think about her chances alone, the masked man quickly gets back to his feet, and continues from where he left off. "Not bad...but it's gonna take a lot more than that to put out Deadpool," he laughs, lunging at Adam with his knife.

Meanwhile, up on the rooftops, Domino is having her own problems dodging bullets left and right. She throw a couple of smoke bombs in a futile attempt to buy herself some time. It doesn't faze her attacker, as he continues the chase.

'Shit! I gotta do something to slow down this guy,' Domino thinks to herself, as she darts across the rooftop.

Back in the alley, both Deadpool and X-Treme continue their battle. Both are battered and bruised, but neither will give up the fight.

"Whaddayou say?" Deadpool smiles, liking the blood from his wounded hand. "I say we 'thumb-wrestle' for it?"

Adam just glares at his opponent. Then, suddenly, there was an explosion from overhead, on one of the nearby rooftops. Near instants later, Domino's body comes flying down through the air.

Quickly, without thinking, X-Treme fires off a throwing blade at his opponent, piercing through Deadpool's right eye. 'Pool lets out a loud scream, before grasping hold of the metal dart lodged into his eyeball.

Using his opponent's temporary distraction, X-Treme leaps into the air and catches Domino in his arms. The force of her fall causes them both to crash down on the hard concrete, but luckily no bones are broken.

"You ok?" asks X-Treme. But before Domino has a chance to reply, Deadpool was back to his normal self, throwing dart clenches in hand. "Well, that wasn't very nice, now was it?"

"WADE!?" Domino yells in disbelief.

"Well, well, Beatrice, fancy seeing you here," Deadpool answers, the blood gushing from his eye now clearing up. "It's been a while hasn't it?"

"But I thought you were dead!?"

"It would've been better if I was. But since I'm here, it's time I get a little bit of revenge."

"But I had no choice! You know that!" Domino pleads.

"NO, I DON'T!" Deadpool screams. "You didn't have to leave me there like that! You have no idea what I've been through! But none of that matters anymore."

The other attacker swoops down into the alley, at Deadpool's side. Domino recognizes him now.

"Me an' Maverick here, have been paid a lotta money to take out your friend there," Deadpool smiles, pointing over to Adam. "and if that means having a little bit of fun on the side, then all the better for me."

With that said, Deadpool quickly pulls out a pair of shotguns from their holsters, and opens fire on the two mutants, X-Treme and Domino. Adam dives in front of Domino, and takes a shot in the side. Deadpool continues firing, as Maverick joins the fray.

X-Treme grabs Domino, and the pair quickly hide behind some debris from the old buildings. Domino grabs out a pair of guns and begins to fire back at their assailants. After a few moments the gunfire stopped.

"I think they're outta bullets!" Domino whispered. "Buy me some time to reload."

Taking the momentary lapse of gunfire into his advantage, X-Treme rushes out from behind the debris, launching himself at the two mercenaries. With one swift kick to the face Maverick was out cold. Good thing they both had Domino's luck on their side.

Following that X-Treme pounces on top of Deadpool. Deadpool quickly side-steps his opponent, and throws X-Treme down to the floor. Deadpool readies his gun, and aims for Adam's face before he has time to get back to his feet.

Domino lunges for Deadpool, but fails in her attempt to subdue him. He manages to outmaneuver her, and send her careering towards the concrete.

"That was fun," Deadpool laughs, "But this game, is over!".

Just then, a blade comes silently through the sky, and slashes across Deadpool's arm. Before Deadpool even has the chance to face his assailant, his arm suddenly ignites.

"What the?!" was all he managed, before the rest of his body is completely consumed by the flame. Soon, all that's left of Deadpool are charred remains.

Moments later a blast of blue energy flies into the alley and hits Maverick square on the chest, burning a hole right through his body armor. X-Treme turns his attention to the source of the blast, and can make out a group of figures standing in the entrance to the alleyway. A woman slowly walks forward. She is the same woman who they'd saved just moments earlier.

"My name's Valerie Cooper, Val to my friends. " she starts. "I'm with the HRM. We need your help."

"What do you need us for?" X-Treme asks, still confused as to the events he has just been witness to.

"We have a special team of mutants who have joined our ranks. Mutants willing to work for the HRM." She explains.

"And you'd like us to join?" Domino asks, unconvinced. "Look lady, I don't care who you are, but we're not out for any kind of cause, so I think you should just go look elsewhere -"

"No, we don't want you to join. We want you two to lead them."
