Chapter 7: Marc
"John! Quick! Get that horse before he tramples anyone," I called out as I continued to herd the rest of the wild horses into the pen.
A minute later though, I heard a scream. I frantically looked around and found John trying to tame another horse. "John! Did you get that loose horse?"
He looked at me puzzled. "No, I thought you got him."
I didn't bother staying to listen to him explain anymore. I cursed under my breath and rushed off. In the main square, I watched as the missing steed reared up in terror as the villagers began crowding around, trying to get him to move. Quickly, I called them back, seeing that someone was under its sharp hooves. Again, it came crashing down and was now pawing around the body, frantically searching for a way out.
Slowly, I made my way closer, trying not to startle it. It was too jittery to care if I was going to hurt it or not though. It saw me and immediately dashed off in the opposite direction. I let the horse go, hoping that someone else would take care of it. I rushed over to the still body left on the ground and caught my breath. At first glance, she looked just like Tess and my mind raced, praying that my mind was playing tricks on me. Only when I knelt beside her though, did I realize that it was Kim. A flood of emotions and memories of the past rushed through me, but I forced them aside and focused on the task at hand.
After a quick inspection, I felt my heart sink. She was terribly injured and needed help immediately. A handful of people came rushing, already bringing bandages and cloths to help her more minor injuries. As soon as she was bundled up as best as possible though, I carefully took her in my arms and carried her to the Healers' home.
Thankfully, they had been warned of Kim's ordeal and were already getting everything ready to help her. Gently, I lay her on one of the empty cots and stood back as I watched a couple of people work on her. Before I could watch for very long though, one of them noticed me there and gestured for me to leave. I knew I had no place to object so I let myself out.
There, I was accompanied by a number of people and together, we waited for news of Kim's plight.
