Chapter 2

A few days later, Melinda finds herself covering her eyes in a local movie theater with her friends Brenda, Jenilee, Ann, Gail, and Missy. All six girls had decided to go see Scream 3 earlier that week and had finally found time to go as a group. After the movie is over and Melinda is shaking all over, they all stay seated and converse with one another, ignoring the looks the couples behind them are giving them from the make-out row.

"So, what'd you think?" Jenilee asks.

"It was great! Much better than Scream 2!" exclaims Brenda. "Doesn't that just make you feel so comfortable about having a boyfriend Bren?" Ann says sarcastically.

"Eh. I don't think John has it in him to do that type of thing. He may be violent at Tae Kwon Do but he would never hurt another person."

"Sure," Gail says. "We all know that secretly he abuses you all over place."

"Whatever Gail! You're just jealous because you don't have a boyfriend."

"Who needs a guy when you can have multiple guys? You're missing out by committing yourself to him."

"Anyway! Enough about John. What do you guys want to do from here?" Missy asks.

"I don't know about you guys but I have to get home. It's late and I have to go do a group project early in the morning," Ann says.

"That means I do too. Where are we meeting Ann?" Melinda asks.

"At the library. How did you manage to forget that?"

"I don't know. Man! I really wanted to go clubbing."

"Well, I can go clubbing for you!" Gail exclaims. "Who else is coming besides me?"

"I would, but I have to get myself over to the bowling alley before league starts," Brenda says.

"That figures. What about you guys?" Gail asks, turning to Jenilee and Missy.

"Sorry Gail, I have gymnastics in the morning, and my parents wouldn't be happy with me if I came home late tonight anyway," Missy says.

"Jen?"

"I'm out. My mother wouldn't be happy if she ever found out that I went to a club. Besides, I'm not eighteen yet so that ruins the fun," Jenilee answers.

"Fine. You'll all be sorry that you missed out on all the fun and hot guys tonight!"

"Go on ahead Gail. We all know you'll live it up for us," Missy says with a smile.

Gail waves good-bye and heads to her car.

"Well, we better go. Jen, are you ready?" Ann asks her friend.

"Sure. We'll see you guys later!" Jenilee answers, following Ann to her car.

"I guess that's my cue to go as well. Night you two!" Missy exclaims, giving each Brenda and Melinda a hug good-bye before going to her own car.

Melinda and Brenda walk towards their cars, which are parked right next to one another.

"How'd you like the movie?" Brenda asks.

"How about I hated it?" Melinda answers.

"Really? Are you just saying that because you hate scary movies as a whole?"

"Probably the latter. It was a good movie but too realistic."

"I agree, but you have to remember, it is just a movie."

"Well, sometimes movies do come true. What if some psycho does snap and becomes Mr. Ghost Face? It would be horrible to deal with, seeing everyone getting slaughtered, not knowing if you are on their list to die or not."

"Well that's a nice line of thoughts. Maybe we really shouldn't have taken you to see this movie."

"Naw, it's okay. I just hope that this feeling I have in my stomach isn't a real thing."

"You have it too? The feeling that something bad is going to happen?"

"Yep."

The two give each other a look and say nothing more, giving one another a hug and departing their separate ways.

'Those girls don't know what they're missing!' Gail thinks to herself as she dances with a hot guy she just met a few minutes ago. 'God they'll die if I ever show up with him on my arm! He is so fine!'

"Gail, I'm going to the men's room. I'll be right back, okay?" he yells into her ear as she nods her head signaling that she heard him. Gail finds herself drifting off the dance floor, towards the bar to get a drink.

"What will it be?" the bartender asks.

'Thank goodness they don't check for ID here,' Gail thinks before saying, "Bloody Mary please."

"You sure about that?" the bartender asks in a strange tone.

"Of course. I love those things."

The bartender nods his head and sets to work on her drink. He hands it to her and says it's on the house. She nods her thanks and turns around to take in the atmosphere of the club. 'God, this place is so much fun. I really wonder if those losers really do ever wonder what they are missing by not coming with me clubbing. I can't wait until college. Party city all the way, baby!'

After finishing her Bloody Mary, Gail spots the guy she was dancing with before and saunters over. A really loud and outrageous beat starts, and she finds herself dancing really close and fast with her partner, trying to drive him nuts with her seductive moves she learned so long ago. After a few times of attempting to grind her, the guy gives up and dances away, leaving Gail still dancing to the beat, wondering what happened.

'I wonder what happened,' Gail thinks before feeling something hit her back. Thinking it is just someone else, she keeps dancing, looking for another guy to hook up with. 'God, what's up with everyone hitting me? It's starting to get painful,' she wonders after she feels gradual pain work its way through her body from her back.

Gail reaches one of her hands to rub the soar spot on her back and feels warm liquid run through her fingers. She quickly pulls her hand in front of her face and realizes that it is actual blood running down her hand. Gail is about to let out a loud scream but it's too late. A hand reaches out and covers her mouth as the person drags her towards the darkest corner of the club where the job is finished and Gail's body is abandoned to be found four hours later by a drunken couple.
