"So you got saved by your two princes? You are so lucky!" squeals Caitlin during breakfast the following morning.
Kassandra rubs her sore wrists and shakes her head. "Not really. If they hadn't come, I would have been in serious trouble."
Caitlin glances down at Kassie's wrists and notes the bruises. "Wow, Seth really pushed it too far this time, didn't he?"
"You could say that," May says, sitting down. "I can't believe that creep! Thank God he's on his way out."
"What do you mean?" Caitlin asks.
"This morning, he was woken up by Bob telling him that he was to report to Kathy's office immediately," Allison says, sitting down across from May. "It's the talk of the camp."
"You mean everyone knows about last night?"
"Not the details but that Seth did something to get him in big trouble. This is why I'm so glad I don't have to deal with dating. Always the chance of a psycho coming around."
"Thanks Allison. That made me feel so much better," Kassandra replies sarcastically. "By the way, I am confused. When are you getting married? I thought it was soon but I heard it's not for another couple of years?"
Allison blushes. "Well, when I got here, I got a phone call from my family telling me that the marriage contract was extended because my intended decided to finish his schooling before he would commit. That pretty much put an end to immediate marriage. I'm happy because it allows me time to explore my future further."
"Well I'm happy for you."
"Thanks. Enough about me though. What are you going to do about Seth?"
"May filled you in huh? Well, I don't really know. I mean, I guess Jason and Joey went to the head staff about it already so it's really only in there hands now."
"How can you be so calm?"
"I don't know."
"Isn't it so sweet how the twins came and saved her though? I would kill to have that happen to me," Caitlin says with dreamy eyes.
May chuckles. "Be careful what you wish for. Besides, if I am right, you seem to be in your own quandary with two certain junior counselors."
Caitlin immediately reddens, causing Hillary, who is sitting next to her, to laugh. "Come on now Caitlin. I saw you kissing Doug the other night."
"Hillary!" Caitlin exclaims.
"Oh, so there is a little love triangle going on huh?" Kassandra teases.
"There is not!"
The group of girls chuckle and continue eating.
"Have you talked to her today?" Jason asks, putting a spoon full of cereal into his mouth.
"No, I thought I'd let her just chat with her girlfriends," Joey replies, eating a bite of his eggs. "I heard that Seth got called into the office this morning."
"How'd you hear that?" Vince asks.
"My junior counselor was asked to cover for Seth."
"Doug is watching Seth's cabin? Man, Seth is definitely in trouble!"
"Good. He deserves it. Nobody treats Kassie like that, or any woman for that matter, but especially not her," Jason states with fire. "Joey, we should have done something to prevent this whole thing."
"I agree, but what could we have done man?" Joey responds. "It's not like she would have really paid any attention to us if we had tried to keep them apart. She sees us being her big brothers who are way too overprotective at times."
"I guess you're right. I just wish that there was something that we could have done, you know?"
"Oh well. The jerk is getting his just deserts right now."
"He deserves far more than just being dismissed, and you know it Joey."
Joey nods his head. "I agree, but there isn't much we can do now. We should have done it last night."
"Wow, I didn't have any idea that you twins were so violent," Vince comments. "Then again, I wouldn't blame you if a guy like Seth hurt my sister. I'd actually have done something last night."
"What are you guys talking about?" Christian asks as he sits down next to Jason.
"Nothing. Guy talk," Joey quickly says, not wanting to be part of spreading the rumor.
"Hmm, okay. Where's Doug?"
"He had some responsibilities to take care of."
"Did you give him more of your work to do?"
Jason coughed as Vince bit his lip. "No Christian, I did not give him any of my work. I never have. Don't you do duties that aren't Jason's?"
"Well yeah but," Christian begins to reply.
"But nothing. Doug is just doing what is in his job description and has always done so. It's not my fault if my brother is going easy on you."
"Hey now," Jason starts.
"Is this true?" Christian asks.
"Well, in all technicality, yes," Jason admits. "I was in your place and having to do all that work was too much for me then so if I could do it, I did it instead of asking you to. I didn't think you'd mind."
"Here I thought Joey was the bad guy."
"Wait! You think I'm the bad guy for taking on your responsibilities?"
"No," Christian replies. "I just thought Joey was being a jerk because he hated Doug."
"Who said I hated Doug?" Joey asks.
"Man is this place full of rumors."
"Don't forget that. It's a good thing to learn. Hey, if you want your full job, you can take it. Just let me know," Jason says.
"I think I can take on more but if you still want to be nice and help, I am good for that."
Jason laughs. "Sounds good."
Vince lets out a chuckle at the scene that just unfolded. 'This is too classic.'
"May I have your attention?" Sally asks from the front of the auditorium. There was a special gathering in the auditorium called before dinner. The whole camp was abuzz with what was going on.
Caitlin squeezes Kassandra's hand as she sees her head counselor tense up. "It's going to be okay."
Kassandra just nods her head.
"I called this special meeting because something happened last night."
Kassandra takes in a deep breath preparing for the inevitable. She glances over at Joey who is sitting at the other end of the row, and he tries to give her a reassuring smile.
"I'm happy to announce the winners of last night's game and champions are the team of Trout and Fawn! With only one member of their cabins left captured at the end of the game and fifteen members of the other teams, I am also happy to announce the previous record set by last year's champions. Kassandra and Joey, please bring your teams up here for the trophy!"
Kassandra lets out a sigh of relief as the entire row stands up and cheers as they campers run up to collect the trophy. Kassandra laughs as Joey pulls her into a big hug.
"We did it!" he exclaims.
"I know! Here I thought this was going to be about something else," Kassandra admits.
"I did too, but this is so much better!"
They pull apart and run up onto the stage to join their campers for a victory whoop and a round of pictures. Afterwards, they return to their seats and sit for the rest of the awards to be handed out.
"I'm so excited that May and Tyler got third place!" Kassandra tells Caitlin as they walk to dinner with their girls. "May has always been so down about never getting an award for this game."
Caitlin smiles. "I just feel bad for Jason though. I mean, if it wasn't for Maya being a wimp last night, he could have had a chance instead of ending up in almost last."
"I know. It must be different for him."
"Well especially with you and him being the champions of last year and all. I remember how excited you and Jason were."
Kassandra smiles at the memory. "It was definitely a lot better than this year, despite breaking that record this year."
Caitlin hugs Kassandra. "Don't worry. I'm sure everything will work out fine."
"Kassandra!" Sally calls out, stopping the girls. "Kathy would like to see you in her office before dinner."
Kassandra nods her head. "Caitlin, can you accompany the girls to dinner?"
"Sure," Caitlin replies.
Kassandra tries to give her a smile before turning around and accompanying Sally to Kathy's office. She knocks and hears Kathy call out to enter. She opens the door and walks in.
"Have a seat," Kathy says, looking at her. "I think you know why you're here."
"Kathy," Kassandra starts.
"Just listen for right now. I am well aware of what has been happening in the past week or so between you and Seth. I have to say that I am surprised that you of all people got involved in a camp romance with him after all these years but I understand that the temptations do get awfully high, especially when the guy is such a charmer. However, what has been transpiring since your little romance extinguished itself is unacceptable."
"I understand."
"Good. Now I was made very aware of how bad things have gotten and originally decided to fire Seth. However, due to the counselor shortage we've experienced already before camp officially started, I cannot do that. The junior counselors are not ready and there is no way I will be able to find another male counselor. As a result of this revelation, I decided to put Seth on probation. Now, I wanted you to know about this because part of his probation is that he must stay away from you unless it is required by us, but I do not believe that it will come to that. I realize that this is going to make your life a little bit harder since you obviously have been harassed quite a deal by Seth but I think that this probation will help. He knows that he will be fired the next time he comes into contact with you. I apologize that I cannot do anymore but I hope you understand why I can't let him go at the moment."
"I understand. Thank you Kathy for your understanding."
"Kassandra, I've known you for so long and I've seen you grow up into quite a remarkable young woman. Don't let one bad guy ruin your view on love and have an amazing rest of the summer. You are doing a great job so far, and I don't want to see that get ruined all because of one loser."
Kassandra laughs. "Thank you."
"Well, I will be having a talk with Joey and Jason after dinner so they will know the situation. I must say that those two are quite fond of you."
"As I am of them. They've always been there when I've needed them the most."
"I remember that. You are quite a lucky girl," Kathy says with a smile.
"I know."
"Well, off to dinner with you. I don't want your girls thinking something bad happened to you. So, unless you have anything else to tell me, I think that is it. Are you all right? With everything?"
"Yes, I am. There are some physical bruises but that's all. I'm all right in every other way."
"Good. I'm glad. Now go and have a good rest of the night."
Kassandra nods her head and heads out the door. "Thanks. You too."
Seth was heading to the Wolf cabin when he heard someone approaching from behind him. "Look, I don't want any trouble," Seth says, turning around. "I've had a really long day and I don't need someone bothering me right now."
Quickly, he is pushed up against the side of the cabin, pinned between the wall and his pursuer.
"I can make it a lot worse," he says, staring at Seth.
"Jason?" Seth manages to get out, taking in the fierce look from the pair of blue eyes staring at him. He looks down at his clothing and finds he has no way of telling which twin it really is from the jean shorts and white T-shirt.
"Listen up and listen well. I know you were allowed to stay but I also know you were told to stay away from Kassie. If you violate that, not only will you lose your job, but I can't promise that you are going to leave this camp in one piece. Do you understand me?"
"You can't boss me around like that. I'll tell Kathy."
"Go ahead and tell. She's had enough of you. Do you really think she would take your side and your word over mine? I don't think so. Get it through your head Seth. Your game is over and there is nothing you can do about it."
"We'll see about that."
The arm presses harder on Seth's throat, cutting off his air supply.
"I guess we will. Just don't forget that I'll be watching you."
He steps away and walks back from where he came, leaving Seth to cough as he gasped deeply for the air he needed. 'Man, this is going to be one rough rest of the summer.'
