Empty Cup

Empty.
I look down into the cup and it’s empty.
Devoid of the delicious sugar-enhanced tea that I so enjoy.
The walls are bare and lifeless.
Ceramic limbo.

Can you get me another cup, sir?
He didn’t seem to hear me.
Ah well,
I guess I can be satisfied with this one.
Nice pattern on the front.
Too bad it’s empty within.

Cold to the touch,
Not warm like it was before.
The scalding liquid passing down my throat
As I devoured that which I most love
Devoid of passion towards the passion drink.

Sir, can I please have some more tea?
You can put it in this cup if you’d like.
Missed him again.
The cup is still empty.
What’s a guy to do?

He has tea, she has tea,
Everyone has tea but me.
Mine is all gone,
And I’m left with ceramic limbo.

The waiter is gone,
The coffeehouse has cleared out
Before I dare to get up
And fill up the cup myself.
