Fires in the Night

Our small circle faces the night,
You, me, and thee,
Engulfed in the fire we surround.

We cry out with pain.
We cry out in joy.
We cry out at random
Without really knowing why.

Dawn seems so far away
For us three around the fire.
For you, me, and thee,
The night is all that matters.

One minute I turn to you,
The next I turn to thee.
You ask if I can turn to both.
Good question, one I often ask.

Flames shoot out from the embers
With a crack, fizzle, and pop
As you, me, and thee watch.

The darkness threatens to engulf
As the fire loosens its grip,
But with renewed passion, the fire reignites,
And the classic struggle continues.

Call out to the night, you.
Call out to the fire, thee.
As for me?
I'll sit back and watch.

Helpless to move,
Helpless to change
Are you, me, and thee.

You are life.
Thee is love.
And as for me?
Well, I'm what I always shall be:
Me.
