John Deere Apples
Jerry Landry

1.
Why can't an apple just be
an apple anymore? Why does it have to be
something
more; something
that it's not.
Leave my apple alone.
It's not an orange.
It's not a grape.
It's not Play-Doh for you to mold
into what you want it to be.
It's mine,
my apple.
Fuck you, get your own.

2.
Always striving to
be more or less than you are
now. Try to just be.

3.
He's not satisfied,
never will be.
'The sky is too blue,
the air is too clear.'
Imperfections
are all he can see.
'The apple is too green,
the John is too Dear.'
What is is something
that he wants to flee.
'The sun is too round,
the far is too near.'
Try living someday,
you might like it.
