Why Do You Hate Me?
By: Jerry Landry

Why do you hate me?
You hate me because I'm me.
You hate me because I was born me.
What a ridiculous thing to say!

Why do you hate me?
You hate me because of what my father did.
Or what my grandfather did.
Or what my great-great uncle twice removed did.
What a ridiculous thing to say!

Why do you hate me?
You hate me because I was born with one thing.
You hate me because I wasn't born with another.
You hate me because I don't have an ovary.
You hate me because I don't have a uterus.
What a ridiculous thing to say!

Why do you hate me?
You hate me because of my skin.
You hate me because I have a peachish hue.
You hate me because I'm not dark.
You hate me because my hair is straight.
You hate me because my hair is not curly.
What a ridiculous thing to say!

Why do you hate me?
You hate me because of my feelings.
You hate me because I like guys and girls.
You hate me because you chose one or the other.
You hate me because I have different tastes.
You hate me because I don't bother you.
You hate me because you're confused.
What a ridiculous thing to say!

Why do you hate me?
You have no real reason to.
You have to pinch and scrape to find a reason.
Do you really hate me,
Or do you really hate yourself?
Look at what you've become.
You're everything that you say that you hate.
Why do you hate me?
I'm just like you.
