"Welcome to the Pearly Gates!" St. Peter said to me
I stood there in amazement which was plain for all to see.

"Now hold on just a minute!" to him I did reply
"You caught me unexpectedly, I'm just not ready to die!"

"I've left some things unfinished, and so many things unsaid,
this isn't one bit fair to do to me, I'd rather not be dead!"

He looked at me and chuckled, "Most all react this way..."
"No one is ever ready when their name is called one day!"

He led me to a waiting room and said "We'll call your name
and then you'll know the verdict, if you're chosen to remain."

I sat there still bewildered and thought about my life...
My three wonderful daughters and my loving, devoted wife.

"I'll bet THEY weren't ready for this, not any more that I!"
As I thought of how I treated them, I really began to cry.

To my loved ones I AM SORRY for the way that I behaved
I hope you can forgive me and pray that I'll be saved.

By now I began to realize how far I'd drifted off track
I really wanted another chance, but there was no turning back!

"Oh please just give me one more chance, to change my evil ways!"
"I promise I'll do better if I could return for a few more days."

It's quite a shock to realize I've hurt them all these years
I could say I'm sorry, but none of them really hears.

Then I hear my name called and I begin to shake
I step outside, an Angel says "There's been a slight mistake."

"This doesn't happen often but there are so many you know."
"We'll send you back, it's not your turn." "Your soul is free to go!"

Then I regain consciousness and feel a tender touch
My loving wife is squeezing my hand - God I love this woman so much!

I can't believe what's happened, but I never will forget...
I'm going to be a better man, On that, my life I'll bet!
