Postojna cave is basically a system of caves that were
made by the river Pivka.The stalactites were made because of the rain water
going through the limestone ground and melting it. This solution was
accumulating on the ceiling and ground of the cave, forming different
"artistic" elements. The stalactites in this cave were made in the last 2
million years. Until now, 21km of the cave were researched.
The cave has many pits and big halls, some high even 45 m. The temperature
in the cave is 8 °C and 5km of it are open for tourists. |
