EUROREVIEW
AJAX-REAL MALLORCA(ESP)
Ajax knows its place in European competition after the drama which unvolded itself in the ArenA on wednesday November 25th. It was painful to see that the Ajax squad was not even a reasonable opponent to the Spanish subtopclub. What could not hurt against Hapoel, did happen again against Mallorca, a 0-1 defeat at home. Difference is that Ajax will hardly be able to get a walkover on the Spanish isle in 2 weeks. With a total unexperienced sweeper Mokoena in the centre of the defence(How can you start experimenting in Europacup games?) it was frustrating to see how many space they gave away to the attackers of the opponent. Stankovic, Tristan they were not good, the Ajax defence sucked. It is frustrating for the attackers who, allthough they did not score, played a reasonable game. It should be clear that I am talking about Laudrup,Knopper and Gronkjaer here, cause another little experiment in the squad, Wamberto as the striker(the dwarf is about 1.60 and did not stand a chance to Spanish defence)was almost pittyful, and substituting him by Brutil Hose is not getting hopes to a higher level either. Let's never do that again, Wouters! And in the 35th minute the inevitable happened, Diego Tristan scored the only goal. Grim who played a solid game(for his standards) did not stand a chance. Two shots of Ajax did hit the posts, but it would be unfair if Ajax got a draw out of this, cause the number of chanes for Mallorca was 10. When the return is played Ajax needs all the luck and magic it can bring together, I would not put my money on victory. I hope I am wrong however, I really do! Note for Ajax: 4
Other Dutch teams in European Cups: Apart from Ajax only Feyenoord is still active in the Champions League on behalve of Dutch soccer. And to be honest, I could not think of a single reason why Feyenoord is still playing cause the game they put on the field is even more miserable than the Ajaxgame from yesterday. The club from Rotterdam has turned into a big vulcano, penalties are given to unsatisfied players by the board, and also in the normal league they occupy the 10th place. A club in even more troubles than Ajax, hardly believable, but in the case of Feyenoord very very amusing. And Chelsea underlined that amusement with putting a strong game on the field, leaving Feyenoord without a single chance, Flo(2x) and Babayaro for Chelsea and Cruz for Feyenoord put the final score of 3-1 on the board, which should place all Feyenoorders with their feet back on earth.
Moment of the week: Imagine a guy who has seen 2 lousy playing Dutch teams in the Europa Cups, being obliged to think about a moment of the week. Hard task for sure! But nevertheless, shocking all the same were the events that took place in Berlin. Commercialism has penetrated so deeply into soccer and has damaged the game, cause playing in a mist which did not allow the players to look further than 25 meters, not even regarding the fans who came to the stadium. It is an outrage that this game was not cancelled, and sponsors with their big demands should ask themselves, that the benefit of having all the games at the same time and the profits of that, how much they weigh when all the people do when they see a mistgame like this, is zapp on to another channel. Unwanted Commercialism, sad but true!
Willem ter Haar (is definitally a better striker than Wamberto and Hose together) |
