AMSTEL CUP 1/8 FINAL
RODA JC-AJAX 1-0
Ajax played miserably, but was not overclassed by Roda JC on friday January 28th. Roda JC seemed to have closely observed a stunteling Ajax the last few weeks and without any worries they kept Ajax away from their own goal and shot Roda JC to the quarterfinals in the Dutch Cup. That happened in the final minute by Peeters. Ajax had only 10 players left when that happened. Chivu and his young enthousiastic attitude may be something that brings him a lot of good actions but also raises the chances on a red card. The third of the season was shown to him in after a little than an hour of play. Further there was only little to say about a game that especially in the first half made the spectator long for a nice warm bed. So after only one game the Dutch Cup is a failure for Ajax, who won the last 2 editions of this prestigious Cup. Ajax plays miserably, and is humiliating itself over and over again. This all in the year that Ajax is celebrating its 100th birthday in March. That the fans are angry is no surprise, but should still not be a reason to let themselves go like they did in Kerkrade. Goodwilling fans are put in a bad spotlight by some hooligans who could not keep themselves together and burnt about 300 seats. Ajax is firm in their reaction. Damages will be sued on those who are responsible, which seems justified, but for the goodwilling fans there are worse things decided, namely that this is the last game that such a thing could happen, next time there will be a 2-match ban of all supporters at away-games. Second of all it means that the games can only be visited with special passes, so no more ticketsale without a special pass, which also is a burden for the loyal goodwilling fans. But while Ajax is making decisions the trainer Wouters keeps out of every talk so it seems. But when will the board see that this man is not the appropriate coach for a team as Ajax. He has prooved over and over that he is not fit to fullfill the expectations of the fans and the board. That should lead to the only logical solution that the man should no longer be the responsible coach for the Ajax-squad. Cause what base of continuation is there for a coach that failed miserably to get far in the European competition as his team blundered against Real Mallorca and also only has the strength to remain in the Dutch Cup for only 1 game? And it is nothing personal this time, Wouters was a fine player who helped Ajax a lot in his time and is a good human being, only not able to coach a team with the aspirations of Ajax. So the sack for him! Soon I hope.
After the whole 1/8 finals of the Dutch Cup it turned out that none of the traditional top 3 teams, Ajax PSV and Feyenoord went throught. PSV lost at home from a strongplaying Vitesse and Feyenoord lost at home from AZ. In that view Ajax at least went out in an awaygame.. This situation(no top 3) has only been twice before, in '75 and '82.It makes the dissappointment and shame of being a fan of such a bad playing team bearable... |
