Ajax this week: A superb 15 minutes in the beginning of the match was a good sign. Ajax totally overclassed Cambuur and after a big chance, Machlas scored in his second attempt, the 7th minute. A beautiful turn around set him eye to eye with keeper de Ron of Cambuur and passed him like it was normal routine. Ajax kept the pressure high and Cambuur got nervous. It was no surprise that that lead to a own goal. De Ron slipped and defender Loontjens passed his own keeper in the 10th minute and the 2-0 got on the scoreboard. 5 minutes later Laudrup showed his exceptional individual class by setting up a genuine slalom through Cambuurs defense, outwitted de Ron and scored magnificently. After that Ajax seemed to remember the form it has played in the last few weeks and the collapsing of the team was shocking. A few chances were all Ajax got but no more of the great play Ajax showed in the first 15 minutes. Cambuur L even sniffed at a few chances itself and after the halftime it even found his way to the goal. Scharrenburg scored the 3-1 in the 48th minute. The crowd dozed off in the meanwhile, the game was completely tiresome. They were too bored to whistle at Wouters, who himself was very surprised that he did not get any criticism from the crowd at all in this game. But the fact that the thoughts were not expressed did not mean that the crowd approved. There is a unsatisfied feeling in general with the Amsterdam fans. More than ever before there is a feeling of fear when looking ahead to the thursday match against PSV, and that feeling is something that Wouters caused and that true fans don't need to accept. Again, and I am gonna repeat till my tongue bleeds, SACK WOUTERS!!!!
Ajax next match: Next on the program is the most difficult match of the season, away against PSV thursday the 10th of february. Ajax can use a win or a draw, otherwise the gap will grow to 4 points again. If Ajax can manage is questionable, the weakness of the team is noticeable and it will take a lot more than the team showed today to beat the Eindhoven squad, especially after the moral-boost they got today scoring 6 times. Everything but a defeat can be celebrated though the loss has to be calculated
Rest of the competition: As stated above PSV had a walkover in and against den Bosch. The 6-2 was deserved, but the team of Den Bosch is a very weak opponent, not a true standard after the 2 defeats against Vitesse and Feyenoord. But still it gives the Eindhoven morale a twist up. Feyenoord got lucky again in their game against Roda JC at home. The Rotterdam squad was not the better, teams were equal, but got the 2-1 victory because of a good goal by talent Cairo and clings on to the top teams again. Something that was never to be expected after the bad seasonstart. Compliments on that one. Heerenveen did not have the trouble with AZ that the table announced. A 3-0 victory prooved that the good place of Heerenveen is no coincedence. FC Twente got stuck on 1-1 at Willem II, the last together with Roda JC in a position on the table that is way too low. RKC could not continue the line of winning and lost without a chance at home from Fortuna Sittard, a 0-3 and a lot of very angry fans.
Moment of the week: Machlas' and Laudrups goals were of great class and especially for Machlas that must have been a great relief. Slightly but surely the Greek goalmachine gets moving.let's hope we will see it in full motion this weekend. That Laudrup is not a regular scorer is known fact, but that he scores beautifully when he does is something that is also sure. Most irritating moment of the week is the broadcast of the soccer this week. Normally at 7 o'clock the soccer of this week had to wait until some crappy Japanese women were done iceskating, and so it happened that in 40 minutes between 8:50 pm and 9:30 pm all the football was shown in a flash. A typical case of bad priorities. Asking around would let the editors know that football was what people wanna see. A very bad move from the programmakers of the NOS!!!
