Ajax this week:
Cold damp on a early March sunday afternoon. Field was cold, fans were cold and the teams looked cold. Not a pretty sight and the score with which the game started was also the final score a boring 0-0. But it did not need to be that way. As an Ajaxfan the results make me fear more and more clubs in the league and I also saw Twente as a dangerous outsider. But Twente played a lame match and the only chances they got were due to some clowning from Amsterdam no.1 clown,Fred Grim. Still Ajax did not get any injection while they observed the weak Twente game. They just played along and did not move an inch. Babangida and Gronkjaer were sometimes dangerous on the sides, got to admit that, but in the centre there was good old mr.Nikos"I can fuck every solid goalchance up"Machlas. And in front of an open goal, about a foot from the backline he managed to play the ball next to the goal. It almost looked like he was a defender for FC Twente. And not only that there were more good chances that were ruined. Ajax is lucky that Feyenoord lost so they can still cling on to the second place after this weekend, but boy it really shows at what point the Dutch football now is, when a team that plays so bad that it hurts the eyes can be second in the table. Allthough Ajax looses sight of PSV slightly but surely, they have again solved another tough match without loss, unbelievable. Next Ajax game: On March 15th Ajax travels to Sittard to play their away game against Fortuna Sittard. And that should not be too much of a problem, it is not gonna be a walkover but a problem, I think not. And immediately after that game we see this weeks opponent FC Twente back in a game in Amsterdam, that is most definitally more difficult than Fortuna. Chances to win:75% Note for Ajax this week: 6
Competition this week: PSV, the prowd leader of the table looked at the sideline this weekend and to its content it saw the gap to the other competitors grow. Ajax drawed and Feyenoord did not get any points at all. Heerenveen looked strong and wrapped up the Rotterdam squad with 3-0. Feyenoord seemed unrecovered from the Champions League against Lazio Roma. Vitesse and Roda JC also played a slightly important game and Vitesse took the 3 points at home in the final minutes, scoring 2 times and Roda JC did not score. Other surprise AZ took on Willem II at home but did not see a victory cause Willem II struggled and managed to get a point in the 2-2 match. 9 points is the gap to PSV from Ajax but the Amsterdam squad have a game less played. Note for competition this week: 7
Moment of the week: The moment of this week is too crazy for words. It is the most stupid moment of the week of the entire season without saying. While every team is supposed to look up and they usually do, Ajaxfans were surprised this week by the announcement that Ajax looks down while they are in 2ND PLACE. In a league where nobody seems strong, Ajax is in second place and looks sure enough to get a ticket to European football, Champions League seems almost manageable. But the board of Ajax does not share the expectations and hope of the fans. They think that Ajax will still get its European ticket endangered, cause this week and this is no joke: THEY ENLISTED FOR THE INTERTOTO-competition For those who do not know what that competition is; it is a competition for clubs who can't normally qualify for European football in their own country, it is a tournament that takes place in summer. Names that also enlisted with Ajax like RKC and NEC are teams who play in that competition, but if Ajax board believes that they should make an aim to go there instead of concentrating a few more weeks, they must be mad.
