Ajax this week: On a fridayevening Ajax travelled south to play in Kerkrade against Roda JC. Some of them must have been confident in a good ending of this trip, cause NEC was beaten quite easy. But Roda JC is a team that beat Ajax twice this season, both cup and league. Gronkjaer took the ropes in a few Ajaxattacks in the first half which lead to the impression that Ajax is playing reasonably. But the defense is worthless as was shown AGAIN on friday. In a game where the attackers were quite invisible(Arveladze first time in starting 11), it were especially the elder, more experienced defenders who blundered. Kanu was selected above Nieuwenburg and Chivu, they were reasonably good. It was Verlaat, van Halst and Grim who screwed up bigtime. It keeps the fans wondering why Grim is still goalie.. The long attack from Roda JC striked first in the 28th minute from a rebound Doomernik scored easily. Peeters made the second one in the 30th minute, with which he crushed Ajax morale. Ajax could not perform anymore and waited till the next goal against them would come. That happened in the 55th minute, Tchoutang scored the final score 3-0. Westerhof the coach said there were no problems. But what vision does he have when he can declare that with a stonecold face? Ajax next week:Sundayevening, for some extra money from Canal + Ajax plays at 18:00 against Sparta at home. Sparta is playing smoothly last week, winning from Feyenoord and a draw against FC Twente, both with reasonable playing. Since there is no more homeadvantage for Ajax, this match also goes in the statistics I think as a game that can end both ways, 50%-50%.Normally it would be no problem, but sadly this is no normal, but a disastrous season for the 100 year old Ajax. Note for Ajax this week: 5
Competition this week: PSV had a rough night.Spectators had plenty to see, in their homematch against AZ. This tough team had to be tamed with 2 red cards,a big fight and 6 goals, which lead to a 5-1, that was a little too far when you look at the game. Eindhoven can make up for a fine championsparty, nothing seems to be able to stop them. And considering the worthless play of their nearest competitors it is welldeserved. Again this weekend there was a lot of failure. Only Heerenveen beat NEC at home in a penalty 4 minutes before time. FC Twente played against a strong Sparta and had to take home a draw of 1-1.Feyenoord went to the little town of Waalwijk, where RKC played and stole a point from the Rotterdam club. Ajax lost 3 points. So this is all PSV needs to order their champaign. Vitesse won with 0-2 at MVV and has now as many points as Ajax with one game more played. Overall the weekend was quite sensational, the game PSV-AZ was a joy for the spectator. Note for competition this week: 9
Moment of the week: In this piece I mentioned the name of Adriaanse last week and on monday it was announced officially that he is the next trainer for Ajax. I am not too happy about that cause there could be better candidates, but it is something Ajax has to deal with. And Ajax has a lot to deal with that it sometimes forgets very important things. For instance. Ajax was very happy to take Johan Cruyff as an advisor after he offered it himself. Cruyff has a big trainersname and a truckload of experience and bald footballwisdom, still Ajax ignored all his directions and after him expressing doubts about Co Adriaanse and Ajax again not listening he was deeply insulted. And that is understandable. So there another man who has a red-white Ajaxheart and only best intentions goes away, after Bobby Haarms,Danny Blind, Jan Wouters now Johan Cruyff turns his back on Ajax. The serious question has to get real pressuring now: How convincing is a board or director when those who care about the club have to be disappointed and angry, and leave the club behind?
Willem ter Haar (Thanx to Cruyff, enough respect/Board has to go soon) |
