Ajax this week:
All or nothing, that were the stakes on Queensday 2000. Vitesse 2 points behind, Ajax playing the worst serie of games in the last 100 years. A defeat almost seemed impossible to avoid. Especially the defense of the Amsterdam squad was nowhere to find. With holes like Swiss cheese, v.Hooijdonk, a good solid Vitesse-goalgetter was allready allowed to score his 23rd goal this season in the 9th minute, after several earlier chances for Vitesse. Chivu totally lost him out of sight and suddenly v.Hooijdonk turned up in front of him to score. In the 27th minute Ajax got the second goal against them, ex-Ajaxplayer v.d.Brom scored the 2-0 again with stumbling defenders only standing there to see.. The 3rd goal was most typical, v.Hooijdonk was next to Verlaat, who tried to defend with a artistic acrobatic move, but it failed miserably, and so in the 39th minute Ajax was 3-0 behind when both teams went for the tea in halftime Ajax was stronger in the second 45 minutes than in the first, but still could not create so much energy to make a openinggoal, and like a very tame lamb Ajax was lead to the butchers. A very weak and embarassing performance, but this game is also the last real tough one of the season. Ajax has ruined his chances for reaching the Champions league, only if others fail, Ajax can still make it, let's hope that Feyenoord and Vitesse will drop something, cause Feyenoord has to play against FC Twenten and Vitesse against AZ. Ajax next week: Sunday May 7th Ajax will play the team of MVV at home, in their last homematch. MVV is struggling, just like Ajax, but on a lower level, and since it is the last game of the season in Amsterdam I expect a victory it is necessary, but especially Ajax-unworthy to loose from MVV at home. Note for Ajax this week: 3
Competition this week: So shameful it is to see that fans of a team with invesments reaching up to 70 million, has to watch tv to see PSV celebrating their championship. PSV were allowed to play galleryplay this afternoon by a very humble RKC, without Nistelrooy and Bruggink it turned 7-1 anyways. Feyenoord struggled at home against AZ but in the last 15 minutes took a definitive lead which lead to 5-3 victory and a 3rd place on the table, one point ahead of Vitesse and 2 in front of Ajax. Heerenveen also made the 2 goals in the last 15 minutes in a 0-2 away victory against Cambuur L. Champions League is sure for them now. I really admire the team, and especially trainer de Haan. Roda JC beat FC Twente at home with 3-2 and Twente can forget Champions League this season. In the bottom both Den Bosch and Cambuur L lost and remain the last 2, MVV catches his last straw for the battle about place 16 beating competitor NEC in a direct duel with 2-0, 3 points difference between the 2 with 2 matches left to go in favour of NEC. Note for competition this week: 7
Moment of the week: A short moment of the week this time. A few days between total hapiness and total sadness in a footballers carreer. Last week I told about the mega-transfer from v.Nistelrooy to Manchester United for 63 million guilders. The test were too rough and demanding for the sublime player from PSV and the transfer was endangered. Then the totally unexpected happened, a long time injury hit v.Nistelrooy this week. 6 months out of soccer, no Euro 2000, no transfer nothing. A real bad punishment for a very respectable friendly player, sympathy goes out to you Ruud!!!
