Benjamin and Robin Devey
Who
Are We?
Written by Benjamin
Between
Robin and Benjamin, we spent a combined 60
years looking for each other.
Robin graduated in English in 1993 and was well on her
way to being disillusioned with the offerings of the world.
She wrote a manuscript titled, 1001 ways to say "I Love
You." Robin hopes for a world where love, beauty,
truth and inspiration are sought for and valued.
In 1993 I became a divorced father of three boys between
the ages of 3 and 7. Providing for my family as senior
designer, I devoted my time to raising the boys, while
pursuing interests in art, music, writing and someday
finding Robin, which happened a year later.
One day I asked my friend Crosby if he knew anyone
I could hook up with. Coincidentally Robin had
asked the same request of him a week earlier. Not
being particularly inventive, Crosby simply matched
up both requests and I called Robin at work. The
next Saturday I helped her with a move she and
her roommates already had planned.
At our first meeting, I was impressed with Robin, and
she held me in a distanced high regard. But we were both
dating others, and we stayed friends. It wasn't until about
a year later, when one of her roommates started to take
interest in me, that Robin herself began to see the
romantic prospects for our relationship.
Once Robin admitted that she might be in love, we took serious
interest in each other. But we dated another few years
before we were engaged just before Valentines Day in 1997.
We married March 3, 1997 and had a son on February 7, 1998.
In the mean time we learned a lot about love, romance and
relationships. While there are many books on the topic,
there aren't many that consider the roles of God, faith and
virtue as the way to lasting, fulfilling love. We feel that
is a topic we are still learning in our life together.
