I'M EATING THE SUN
photo

anyone who knows me, knows I hate reality TV and I say so adamantly believing I have enough reality in my own life. I will deny it if you ask me in person (tongue in cheek) but I have a guilty pleasure "Wife swap" one of the kookiest episodes I ever seen was where an Arizona women "ate the sun" she hated food and eating and forced her family to eat a raw food diet but she got up at the break of dawn every day to have her morning bowl of sunshine, she felt the body could be sustained on sunlight ( when the "husband pointed out that some of the most sun soaked regions of the world{south Africa} have the most poverty and starvation she was kinda at a loss for an answer) I love this idea now I know I need to eat my Wheaties and drink my milk to grow big and strong ( purely a figure of speech I hate Wheaties) but I know the body needs sunlight to produce Vitamin D. The major biologic function of vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. There is however much research indicating a direct link between vitamin D levels and depression. There are currently many studies treating major depression alone or in tandem with vitamin D. Anyways I was so excited to see we had a dusting of snow and that the sky was clear and blue with a big bright sun, I get so down in the dumps with days on end of gray skies (but that is Oregon after all) so I relish the opportunity to eat some sun even if it is as cold as a well diggers bum out there. Me and my pup clocked just over 4 miles this mourning and for a good part of it I took off my hat and gloves and pushed up my sleeves and soaked in the joy. It just makes me happy to feel the warmth of the sun on my face or back even if the biting wind is blowing the rest of me. Yesterday I was thinking of things that made me happy my absolute first though was sunshine. I think of myself as a solar panel out there absorbing happiness & health being kissed by the sun enjoying my daily serving of RFDA vitamin D.
