I served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman from 1969-1979. Attended Boot Camp at Great Lakes Hospital Corps School at Great Lake Naval Training Center, followed by a staff position at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital until 1971. I reported to NAS Lemoore, CA to Attack Squadron 215 "Barnowls", with whom I served onboard the USS Oriskany (CVA-34) being stationed off the coast of Vietnam for the 72-73 cruise. Upon the completion of my tour in fall of 73 , I reported to the Aviation Med Tech School at NAS Pensacola, FL. I was later stationed at NAS Whiting Field in the Aviation Medicine Department until 1976. My last tour of duty in the Navy was from 76-79 station onboard the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67). Below is a picture and prayer I carried with me through my career.
"O God, Who brought our fathers through the Red Sea and carried them safely through the deep as they sang praises of Thy name, we humbly beseech Thee to guard Thy servants aboard ship, and having repelled all adversities, bring them to the desired port after a calm voyage. Through out Lord, Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who livest and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen." |
