ANIMALS-
I've always liked animals. They're so fascinating and diverse. Some are cute and cuddly, others are beautiful. Some are dangerous, and some are just plain weird. That's what makes each of them interesting (kind of like people). Some of MY favorites are horses, sheep, dogs, whales, and reptiles (especially lizards and turtles). Even though I feel sorry for some of the animals in captivity, I really like to go to zoos and aquariums. I will probably never go on an African safari or go diving with sharks or whales, so that's the only way I, as well as most of us, can see these magnificent creatures. I also share my home with a cute doggy ( named Scooter) and some fish. (As well as some spiders, but I don't like those!)
CARTOONS-
I may be in my 20s, but I still like those cartoons. My favorites while growing up were "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "Dinosaucers," "Dino-Riders," "Duck Tales," "Care Bears," "Transformers," "He-Man" and "She-Ra," and, of course, "Smurfs!" There is also a more recent cartoon I like a lot, and that's Comedy Central's "South Park." "Family Guy" was also a show with wit...glad to see it's back on! I also like some anime. Both "Pokemon" and "Powerpuff Girls" are really cute!
DINOSAURS-
Aren't dinosaurs fascinating creatures? Not that I've ever seen a real one, but I've been into that dinosaur thing for a long time. I have lots of little dinosaur toys; the most recent addition is a "Lost World" spinosaurus. I've had many erasers, posters, calendars, etc. depicting these "terrible lizards." Once I spent the night at The Science Place, Fair Park, Dallas, TX with the Girl Scouts, and it was when the robotic dinosaur exhibit was there -- it was SOOO AWESOME!! There isn't a specific dinosaur I like more than others--they're all awesome. Stegosaurus, parasaurolophus, tyrannosaurus, brachiosaurus, triceratops, euoplocephalus: they're all good...
FLYING-I wouldn't be a good aviator if I didn't say I enjoy flying! Ever since I was a little girl, I loved riding the airliners. At the Academy, I took soaring, and while I didn't get even close to soloing, I enjoyed it. We did some cool flying on the training aircraft in Pensacola, and while I may not have liked some aspects of the training-side of the program, I could almost always enjoy the flying! But as a navigator, I sit in the back and can't control the aircraft or see where we're going, so I'm working on my private pilot license in a Cessna 150 in my limited spare time! I'm a co-owner of that airplane, but my husband and I both hope to get a nice private plane in the future...
MOVIES-What red-blooded American doesn't like watching movies. While I don't go out to theaters as much as I used to, we have a pretty extensive DVD collection. Check it out!
MUSHROOMS-
SHROOMS! I really like mushrooms, too--especially that cute little Chinese mushroom on "Fantasia"! They have no nutritional value, but they taste really good (and they're cute). Mushrooms are good with everything: on pizza, in sauces and soups, with steaks, on salads...Just don't eat the bad ones! Yes, beware those "mushroom spies," right, Amy? Dave doesn't like mushrooms though: he thinks they're yucky. He says they're too squishy and taste funny. Poor, poor man.
SPACE-
"Space: the final frontier..." I've always been intrigued by the great unknown of outer space. I hope to one day work in space. It's one of the reasons I came to the Academy (even though it'll probably never happen - me working in space)...just don't call me a space cadet.
TRAVEL-
I love to travel and see new and interesting people, places, and things. I've been to a number of places within the continental US (AL, AR, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MS, MO, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV), as well as Alaska, Hawaii (Big Island's the best!), Puerto Rico, and Guam. Plus I've gone international on occasion with visits to Japan (1990), England (1997, 2005), and Ireland (2004). I've also stepped foot in Mexico, Canada, Germany, and Wales, but only for brief periods of time. For our honey-moon, we went on a 7-day Caribbean cruise that hit Cozumel and Grand Cayman, Caymen Islands. Cruising was great - we're going to try to go again soon.
I'd love to go to Jamaica someday - Dave says the diving there is great. I'd also like to visit Australia, Italy, Greece, Germany, the Serengeti, Egypt, the Amazon, and many, many other places. Come to think of it, I'd also like to go to Disney World!
VIOLA-
I've always enjoyed music. Played the piano for a couple of years. Then, I started playing the best instrument in the world in 6th grade. (OK, I'll admit I'm biased.) I played the viola through my senior year of high school, playing in the All-Region orchestra a couple of times and getting Exemplary Performance recogition on a solo. I picked it up a few times while at USAFA. As a matter of fact, I played it for the BlueBard's production of the musical Brigadoon. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to play it very seriously anymore...I just fiddle around every now and then. I've played with my church choir for a little while recently. Hopefully, I will be able to regain my skills, and maybe play with a local symphony orchestra some day!
