Military Firearms

M16a2
This here is the M-16, caliber 5.56mm. This was the weapon of the basic infantryman. Every Marine is considered one. In the Marines you are "married" to your weapon. You treat it like another appendage on your body. I vividly remember sleeping with my weapon in my sleeping bag. That was not uncommon at all. The rifle PT was the worst part of having that weapon. You never realized how heavy it was until you were squating down with your hands out in front of you, palms down and the M-16 resting on the tops of your hands. But for some odd reason going to the range and smelling all that carbon made it all worth while even though you had second thoughts back at the armory when you had to clean it.
M203
This is the M203. Generally the weapon of the Fireteam leader. It was quite a fascinating weapon and I wish I had gotten to use it more. It is an M-16 with a 40mm grenade launching tube mounted underneath. During my training I became quite proficient with it. I loved the dull thump it made as the projectile left the tube and the crash in the distance of the round hitting it's target. The one round I would have loved to have fired out of it was the Buckshot round. Can you imagine a 40mm buckshot load??
M249 SAW
The M249 SAW is a Squad Automatic Weapon. I got to know this weapon quite well. Here is a pick of what me and my SAW looked like on one outing in Okinawa. M249 SAW. The SAW is the same caliber as the M-16, 5.56mm or for you civilian minded people .223. LOL I always considered this to be the poor man's version of the M-60. It is a good weapon but a major pain to clean! Here is one broken down. There is one of these in each Fireteam as well. Lucky me, I got the honor of being the Automatic Rifleman.
