The Greenfields in Australia

SYDNEY - SUNDAY 11 MARCH 2007

The Greenfields gave the first performance in their month-long singing tour of Australia, at the La Vallette Social Centre at Blacktown, the hub of the Maltese community in NSW. Singing to a packed hall, The Greenfields interpreted most of their long-time hits, mingled with some new material which blended nicely to create a truely unique Maltese evening.
The traditional Maltese dish, the rabbit, was served while Charles Curmi Babyface warmed up the audience with his inimitable style before the Greenfields' performance. The Greenfields excelled in the show they gave to around three hundred Maltese guests who turned out specifically to listen to their folk-style type of music and to be part of this nostalgic evening

MELBOURNE - 16, 17, 18 MARCH 2007

The Greenfields in Melbourne

The Greenfields sang on Friday 16th, then to a packed house on Saturday 17th March, at the spacious hall of the Polish Recreation and Convention Center in Albion. The Maltese/Australian audience present were in full voice as they sang

along to most of the Greenfields' songs, and laughed their hearts out at Joe's jokes. The following day, Sunday 18th, the Greenfields performed to yet another packed house at the Maltese Community Centre in the heart of the City of Melbourne. It was really emotional to have most of the people present wave goodbye to Joe and Carmen, outside the Center's door, as the Greenfields left for Avalon's airport for their return trip to Sydney after the show.
The three Melbourne gigs were the type of shows which the Greenfields always look to when singing to Maltese emigrants.

BRISBANE - SATURDAY - 24 MARCH 2007

After a week's holiday in Surfers Paradise, the fifth show by the Greenfields was performed in an Italian club in Brisbane, for the Maltese living in Queensland. The Greenfields performed an hour and three quarters show of Maltese, and English songs, that was warmly received by the audience present.

This venue is generally thought to be a quiet venue by Maltese artists who perform in Australia. However, the Greenfields were so enthusiastically received, with the audience singing along to almost anything Joe and Carmen sang, that the evening turned out to be a very big success indeed!

The Greenfields in Brisbane
SYDNEY - 31 MARCH and 1 APRIL 2007

After the performances in Melbourne and Brisbane, the Greenfields returned to Sydney for the final two shows of their 2007 Australian tour. The first show was a 'cabaret style' performance in the luxurious Mandavilla Function Centre in Horsley Park on Saturday 31 March. This was a special night in the Greenfields tour, because the hundred or so guests invited included top business people, Club Presidents, and even Mr John Aquilina , the Speaker of Parliament in NSW, who had just been re-elected to Parliament for another term of office.
The lavish sea-food platters which included lobsters, crabs, extra king-size prawns etc., complimented nicely with this high-class evening. After a few songs by an up-and-coming young female singer, The Greenfields took the floor, dressed in white and tourquoise, to present an hour or so of Maltese and English songs from their vast repertoire. In this sophisticated atmosphere, the Greenfields could express better their talents and versatility. Joe's comedy and voice harmonies, together with Carmen's strong and beautiful voice were appreciated and applauded by one and all.
This was a beautiful experience indeed!

The Greenfields were again back in concert the next day, Sunday 1 April, at the Hamrun Club, in Marsden Park for the final lap of their Australian tour. Charles (Babyface) and brother Joe Curmi started the programme, followed by Maltese Aussies Rigu and Joe Galea. The first part of the programme ended with an up and coming young singer doing a rock and roll act. The Greenfields took the stage for the second part of the programme and gave an hour and 50 mins show of Seekers, Country, and Maltese songs that had the audience singing at the top of their voices, and laughing their hearts out at Joe's jokes.
After the show, the people present flocked to the Greenfields to lay their hands on a signed cd, take photos and urge Joe and Carmen to pass the emigrants' best wishes to their families in Malta.

The first CD will also include a previously unreleased track entitled "Ahna l-Maltin", the winning song of the YTC Song Festival 1987.
The songs have all been re-recorded, but the vocal and instrumental arrangements of the original recordings were, as much as possible, kept intact. The release of The Greenfields' "Ahna l-Maltin" Vol 1 CD coincides with the duo's visit to Australia, from the 5th March to the 5th April 2007. Volume 2 is planned for release in Summer 2007.

In fact, in KOLLOX SIBT, The Greenfields sang live, 'We Shall not be Moved', 'Stand by your Man' and 'Morning Town Ride', backed also by the Mark Spiteri Lucas' resident Band. Then Joe and Carmen interpreted a medley of Maltese Folk songs in which Carmen takes the lead, namely, 'Għodwa Maltija'/'M'Għadekx tara (Zabbarija t-Tut)'/and 'Il-Lift tal-Barrakka'.
