My L7 Concert "Diary"

September 18, 1997, The Supper Club, NYC

I arrived at the Supper Club at about 5:50, which was an hour and ten minutes before doors were to open, and a whole 2 hours and 10 minutes before the concert was to start. I was about the 8th person on line. The guy in front of me was wearing a "Sweet 75" shirt and a bunch of girls in front of me were looking kinda "goth". This scalper guy kept coming by and offering to buy this girl's extra ticket for $10, but she basically told him to "fuck off" since she had paid close $20 for it (damn Ticketmaster). While I was waiting, suzi walked out the side door but everybody just kinda looked and said nothing. Yva Las Vegas of Sweet 75 also walked by once, and she waved and stuff. Then a guy and his sister joined the guy standing next to me (in the Sweet 75 shirt) and i kept looking at him cos his looked soooo familar. He finally asked me if i knew him from somewhere and we figured out that he was standing next to me at the Tibetan Freedom Concert and he had also seen me on MTV's coverage of the concert (MTV followed me around like idiots). Donita also came out a little while later, but every though people kept calling her name, she just walked by and sat in their van. Finally at exactly 7:00, they let us in. The Supper Club is a TINY place that's sorta fancy looking and had loveseats on the side and stuff. Its also a really cool place to see a concert because there are no security guards standing in front of the stage. I wound up exactly front and center. I talked to the various people around me (including this weird guy who kept insisting he looked like Krist Novasellic and that him and Gail Greenwood are "pals") until Bluebird went on at 7:45. Thet were really, really good. I'm not sure how I'd describe their music, but it was loud and it was good. Their lead singer was this guy named Sam who was really cute. They played for about half and hour and I took about 4 pictures.. Then Sweet 75 came on and I was pretty excited since I love Nirvana and the fact that Krist Novasellic was like 2 feet away from me was kinda cool. They played a mix of everything, including country, but the vocals were kinda muddy so Yva was kinda hard to hear. They played for about 45 minutes and I took a bunch of pictures of Krist and one of Yva. Oh, at one point in their set, some asshole yelled out "Nirvana!" and Krist threatened him or something. Anyways, when L7 came on, I was practically shaking. I was sooooo excited. They had their big logo hanging down and it was really cool. They opened with "Andres" and then went into "I Need" (great live). They also played shitlist, death wish, fast and frighting, pretend we're dead, lorenza..., off the wagon, drama, shove, the masses are asses, bitter wine, and some other stuff that i can't remember. They were just great and I got lots o' pics. During "Drama", this "stripper" came out (i think it was the drummer from Bluebird, but i'm not sure) and he had L7 stickers all over his body and he had that smeary "Donita make-up" around his eyes and glow-sticks attached to him. He was wearing foil around his middle and eventually took it off so he was only wearing a thong and he was dancing and stuff. It was pretty funny. After the show i hung around with a bunch of people outside to see if the band would come out. Bluebird was moving their equipment so i got Sam's autograph. Finally, after like 45 minutes, Dee came out (with her electric blue hair) and signed and stuff and she was really nice. Some guy was joking with her about marrying her. She had to hurry out to some dinner, but I got a picture of her while she was signing. Then 5 minutes later, Suzi came out across the street. She was really sick and she was coughing and sneezing all over the place, but she still signed and i snapped a picture of her too. Then a little while later, Donita came out and she signed too, and I asked if I could take a quick picture of her, and she was like "Don't ya wanna be IN the picture?" so ofcourse i jumped in and this guy who had been talking to himself earlier took the picture. My dad was getting restless, but i begged him for another 15 minutes so i could meet Gail and she finally came out. An old friend of hers was there waiting for her, so she was really excited. She also asked us if the people at the club had been mean to us and we just said that they were just "assholes." When I asked her for a picture, a bunch of random people jumped in, so i have group shot of me, gail, and a bunch of people i don't know, so its pretty funny. Anyways, I had an awesome time!!!!!!

Here's the group shot of a ton of people i don't know plus Gail. I'm the one on Gail's right in the tank top.

Here's me and Donita. not a great of me, but i like it anyways : P
