Marquette County Vietnam Memorial
Located in Marquette, Michigan
Located at the lower Harbor Park on the shore of Lake Superior, stands
the Marquette County Vietnam Memorial. The Memorial was designed by Tom
Cuff of VVA Chapter 380. Plans were drawn up in 1995 by Gary Helstein
and the chapter began to raise funds in April of 1996. Construction
began in June of 1996 with completion by August of that same year. On
September 20, 1996 the Memorial was dedicated during ceremonies for
POW/MIA Recognition Day.
The Memorial consists of Jasper/Hematite stone which is native to
Marquette County. Inscribed on the stone are the names of 13 soldiers
from Marquette County *. The pointed ends represent the directions which
were prominent to the reasons for the Memorial. West in the direction
of conflict - East in the direction of back home.
