The girlfriend of one of the guys in the mortar squad was a grade school teacher
who had her class make the flag that I am holding as a class project. From not
understanding Marine Corps terminology and abreviations some errors were made in
the flag. "Suicide India" became "Suicide Indian"; "81mm Mortars"
became "81st Mortars" and
"3rd Squad" became "3rd Section". When we first received the flag we were angry
at all the errors in it but quickly forgave them for we knew that their hearts were in
the right place and that the flag was created from a labor of love.
