Messerschmitt Me 264 Amerika

The Messerschmitt Me 264 Amerika was one of the few strategic bombers ever developed by the Luftwaffe. As the name suggests, the Amerika was inteded to reach New York from Germany. An enormous fuel capacity was thus required in order to accomplish its task, and by doing so the armament of the plane was substantially decreased. The promising plane was still in its prototype stage when it was abandoned to concentrate on the production of interceptors to defend Germany.
