Questions and Answers about
the Military Conscientious Objector Home Page
- Q What is a conscientious
objector anyway?
- A A conscientious
objector (CO) is a person who has religious, conscientious, ethical or
moral objections to military service and killing.
-
- Q Is this page
sponsored by the G.I. Rights Network?
- A No, this page
is not sponsored by, approved by, or affiliated with the G.I. Rights Network.
- Q How can there
be conscientious objectors in a voluntary military?
- A People change.
Often people enter the military seeking job training, money for college,
or to serve their country. They don't always think about how they would
feel about killing someone until their experience in the military forces
them. (When was the last time you saw combat or body bags in an Army commercial?)
When people realize that they cannot conscientiously participate in killing,
they need to get out of the military.
- Q If we let some
COs out, won't everyone else want out when there is a war?
- A While requests
for CO discharges increase during times of conflict, history has shown
that the very small number of COs has no effect on military preparedness.
Let's face it, some people just shouldn't be in the military.
