John Lennon was born in Liverpool on 9 October 1940

With his father Alfred, away at sea his mother Julia, left him in the care of his aunt and uncle, Mimi and George.

Here he developed his musical skills after Mimi bought him a guitar.

His mother died when he was seventeen, after being hit by a car. The loss devastated him and it affected his outlook considerably.

At 15, John formed a skiffle group by the name of The Quarry Men and played local parties. It was at alocal performance on 6 July 1957 that he met Paul McCartney, who he asked to join the group. George was introduced through Paul and history was made!

In 1962. he married Cynthia Powell in a secret wedding with Brian Epstein as his best man. Paul and George were also in attendance. In 1963, Julian was born.

By now the Beatles were huge and this led him away from Cynthia. In 1966 he met Yoko Ono and avant-garde artist in London and eventually divorced Cynthia for Yoko.

In 1969 they got married in Gibraltar and after their wedding had a bed-in-for-peace in Toronto. During this time they were both heavily experimenting with drugs and also their recorded "art".

After the Beatles split in 1970, John went on to record many varied albums including Imagine & Double Fantasy.

In 1980 on December the 8th, John Lennon was tragically shot dead by Mark Chapman outside his New York home. The world was robbed of one of the greatest musicians of all time, and is to this day, truly and sadly missed by millions around the world.
