In the Name of Allah, most Compassionate, most Merciful

Hypocrisy runs amuck in this world today.  Hypocrisy in time of Prophet (S) was hidden among some Muslims and open among the disbelievers.

Quran 9:73. O Prophet (p.b.u.h)! Strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be harsh against them, their abode is Hell, - and worst indeed is that destination. 

Quran 9:68. Allâh has promised the hypocrites; men and women, and the disbelievers, the Fire of Hell, therein shall they abide FOREVER! It will suffice them. Allâh has cursed them and for them is the lasting torment. 

So this world is overwhelmingly disbeliever and the hypocrites among the Muslims commit their hypocrisy in open as acts of kufr proving true the hadith where prophet (S) said.

"You Muslims (compared to the large number of other people) will be like a black hair on the side of a white ox, or a white hair on the side of a black ox"
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.265 Narrated by Abu Said Al Khudri

Now to prove how come most of the Muslims are hypocrites today and doing it openly.  Firstly, very few do fighting for sake of Allah in the path of Allah.  As Allah said in Quran:

Quran 9:44-45. Those who believe in Allâh and the Last Day would not ask your leave to be exempted from fighting with their properties and their lives, and Allâh is the All-Knower of Al-Muttaqûn (the pious).  It is only those who believe not in Allâh and the Last Day and whose hearts are in doubt that ask your leave (to be exempted from Jihâd). So in their doubts they waver.

Quran 4:77. Have you not seen those who were told to hold back their hands (from fighting) and perform As-Salât, and give Zakât, but when the fighting was ordained for them, behold! a section of them fear men as they fear Allâh or even more. 

Quran 9:49. And among them is he who says: "Grant me leave (to be exempted from Jihâd) and put me not into trial." Surely, they have fallen into trial. And verily, Hell is surrounding the disbelievers.

Secondly very few practice their deen completely as how Allah ordered them to practice.  

Quran 2:208. O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islâm (by obeying all the rules and regulations of the Islâmic religion) and follow not the footsteps of Shaitân (Satan). Verily! He is to you a plain enemy.

And when Allah or Prophet (S) order them something, i.e. through Quran or hadith, they make excuses.  As Allah commands the believers in the following ayahs that how they should behave.

Quran 8:1 ...So fear Allâh and adjust all matters of difference among you, and obey Allâh and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), if you are believers.

Quran 8:27. O you who believe! Betray not Allâh and His Messenger, nor betray knowingly your Amânât (all the duties which Allâh has ordained for you).

Thirdly, very few "Muslims" have the knowledge of deen (religion).

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 219 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: There are two qualities which can never coexist in a hypocrite: good conduct and comprehension of religion.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.93 Narrated by Aisha
The Prophet said, "I do not think that so-and-so and so-and-so know anything of our religion." (And Al-Laith said, "These two persons were among the hypocrites.")

Fourthly, hypocrites don't do their Salah (prayers) at all, or every now and then or they are lazy in their Salah or do it when other people are around.

Quran 9:54 "and that they came not to As-Salât (the prayer) except in a lazy state; and that they offer not contributions but unwillingly."

Quran 107:4. So woe unto those performers of Salât (prayers) (hypocrites), Who delay their Salât from their stated fixed times, Those who do deeds only to be seen (of men).

So this list can go on in proving how come most of the Muslims today are hypocrites, but the proofs I have listed should be sufficient enough for the wise insha'allah.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.229 Narrated by Abi Waih
Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman said, "The hypocrites of today are worse than those of the lifetime of the Prophet, because in those days they used to do evil deeds secretly but today they do such deeds openly."

"Verily! The hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire." (Quran 4:145)

The hypocrites will remain in the fire forever!  But one can save him/herself from all this mess by repenting, entering Islam and learning the deen properly and sacrificing for Allah wealth and life!

Quran 3:142. Do you think that you will enter Paradise before Allâh tests those of you who fought (in His Cause with their lives and wealth) and (also) tests those who are As-Sâbirin (the patient ones, etc.)?
