In the Name of Allah, most Compassionate, most Merciful

It is against the Sunnah to eat too much meat.  Eating meat everyday or even every other day is a major extravagance.  The Messenger of Allah (S) and the Sahabas use to eat meat rarely!

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 2.586 Narrated by Abu Said Al Khudri
In the lifetime of Allah's Apostle , we used to give one Sa' of food as Sadaqat-ul-Fitr (to the poor). Our food used to be either of barley, raisins, cottage cheese or dates.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 7.367 Narrated by Said bin Al Harith
that Jabir ibn Abdullah said: "...We never used to get cooked food during the lifetime of the Prophet except rarely..."

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "Beware of meat. It has addictiveness like the addictiveness of wine."

Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Umar ibn al-Khattab saw Jabir ibn Abdullah carrying some meat. He said, "What is this?" He said, "Amir al-mominin. We desired meat and I bought some meat for a dirham." Umar said, "Does one of you want to fill his belly apart from his neighbour or nephew? How can you overlook this ayat? (49:20) On the Day when those who disbelieve will be exposed to the Fire (it will be said): "You received your good things in the life of the world, and you took your pleasure therein. Now this Day you shall be recompensed with a torment of humiliation, because you were arrogant in the land without a right, and because you used to rebel and disobey."

So Umar ibn al-Khattab (R) became angry to see that Jabir (R) was carrying meat to eat.  At that time Umar (R) was the khaleefah and the Muslim empire was the biggest empire in the world at that time.  Umar told him that this world is for the enjoyment for disbelievers and refrain from extravagances, specially of meat he was carrying.  Umar also instructed him to put his money into caring about his neighbours and relatives and other poor Muslims of the ummah.
