This is the unofficial
website for U.S.S. Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58). The "Sammy B.," as it is
more affectionately called, is homeported in Norfolk, Virginia. This Oliver
Hazard Perry Class frigate began construction on May 21, 1984 and was commissioned
on April 12, 1986. "Sammy B.'s" first deployment in the Persian Gulf immediately
challenged the crew's survivability skills as the ship struck a mine. Because
of her crew's quick thinking, the ship survived the blast. All experts
agreed that the ship should've sunk that day, but she defied all odds.
