In 1989, the Class started a scholarship fund in the memory
of Sam Mitra '88. The scholarship has been awarded annually
to an undergraduate on financial aid from India (Sam's native country). We are very proud of the scholarship
and are grateful to all those classmates who have
made generous contributions over the years. Started just eight
years ago, the fund now has over $13,000, and this year, we were able
to award a $1,500 scholarship.
This year's recipient of the scholarship is Pavan Ahluwalia '99, who is from New Delhi, India. Pavan is an economics major and is active in Whig-Clio, the Butler College Council, USG, the Daily Princetonian, and various sports. Before coming to Princeton, he attended the Modern American School.
Our goal is to build a sufficient
endowment so that we will be able to award a full tuition
scholarship each year. Contributions to the fund are tax-deductible and can be mailed in with your class dues. You can
also send them separately to Chris Lu, 6711B Washington
Blvd., Arlington, VA 22213. Thank you.
Annual Giving
The Class of '88 has continued to set new standards in Annual Giving. After breaking the records for 10th reunion giving last year, the class has set new records for participation and total dollars raised for an 11th reunion class. In the campaign ending June 30, 1999, 54.3 percent of the class contributed to Annual Giving, raising a total of $108,288. Credit for this impressive accomplishment goes to Class Agent Larry Neubauer and all his dedicated volunteers.
Virtual Reunion -- February 28, 1998
Classmates took part in a "virtual reunion" on Saturday, February 28. The idea was to organize groups of '88ers in various cities to perform service projects in their communities. In D.C., a group went to the Washington Center for the Aging (a nursing home) to spend time with the residents. The '88ers who participated were: Jenny Wu, Mitch Lazris, Reed Stephens, Kim Stephens, Dan Paradis, John Maull, Mark Gleason, Nancy Schwartz, and Chris Lu. Also participating were Jeremy Bradford '93 and Ivy Schlesinger '96. More information on "reunions" in other cities will follow.
Class Memorial Book Fund
In memory of all of our classmates who have died, the Class
will make a donation to Firestone Library for the restoration
of old books. Books restored with Class of '88 funds will contain
a special designation on the inside of the book.
