I loaded on a C-124 at Tachikawa in June of 1953 headed back to Korea from a week R&R in Japan. The 124 that took off behind us crashed on takeoff and killed everyone on board. I believe it was the biggest air distaster in history up to that time!!! Just
issed that one.

Flew as loadmaster on "Ole Shakey" from 1964 to 66 and again from 1967 to 68 out of Dover, DE. Did a stint in SEA from 66 to 67 on "A" model 130s out of Naha, Okinawa. Had the opportunity in the mid 90s to fly on the Concord several times so I guess that
qualifies me for the slowest and fastest loadmaster in existance.
Great site.

I was just one of the many grunts who worked to keep the c-124 flying out of Tachikawa and Dover from 1957 to 1960. Worked on both the engines and airframe. Still have scares on my fingers from hot manifolds and hot spark plugs while working on the fou
r-4360's. Good page.

I got to McChord AFB in January 1958 and stayed there until my discharge in June of 1961. The C-124A and C were flown there first by the 1705th ATG and later by the 62nd ATW. Seven of us old Aircraft Electricians from McChord get together every other yea
in commaraderie and fun. I will check back from time to time.

You have a good start on a work on one of the real workhorses of the "old" Air Force.
I flew C124s out of Travis AFB from 1956-1959 with both the 84th and 85th Air Transport Squadrons. Blew both A and C models. Worked my way up from 2nd Pilot to Air Craft Commander in just under two years.

I enjoyed your article on C-74's very much. I was assigned to the 6th ATS, Mobile and made many flights to North Africa & Europe in them, as a Radio Operator. I was also assigned to the 6th TCS, Tachikawa prior to that,(C-54s & C-124s).Arrived there July
20th 1950 and lst flight to K2 on 22nd hauling ammo in and wounded out. Not many good memories about those tours.
Again, the articles on the Globemasters was very good.

I think you have a good web site here and if you're able to include the information you plan to, it will be awesome! I found it while trying to research some information on the C-124 and it's arrival at McChord AFB in Dec. 1950. I'm sure you know, since
you have a section that will be dedicated to units that flew it, that the 62d flew the C-124. I look forward to scanning this site in the future for information that can be useful to me at work. Thanks!
