I was in Ni-Go-San from Dec 57 till May 59. Mainly I worked as a A/C Radio Tech, but did fly as a radio operator and navigator. Had 400 hours. I really enjoyed seeing the photos of the R5's and the Q. I never did like to R5 a whole lot but the Q was so un redictable that you just had to love her. Semper Fi!

I'm very interested in the history of this squadron and the job that they did in Vietnam and since that time. While I was in the squadron our skipper worked us to the point that we deployed six months ahead of time just because he said that we were the be t. I had to agree our maintenance standards and flight time far out did most of the other units in K-Bay at that time.

Ron, It was nice getting to talk to you on the telephone. Great web page you have here. It is great to see that you still have alot of pride in what you did for yourself and your country. I hope to carry that same pride and someday when I retire, I will build myself a web page just as you did. I started my career as a maintainer on F-14 my first 3 years then move on to my love of flying and became a rescue swimmer and now fly in the CH and HH 46D. Just think you finished your career with the H-46 as a new aircraft and now some thirty years later I am flying as a crewchief and Rescue swimmer in them possibly even some of the same ones with a few modifications. Take care of yourself. Keep in touch!

VMR-152 R5Ds carried my butt to and from K-3 a couple of times however I usually got hauled by an R4Q-1 from VMR-253 it seems. My first trip was going from Itami to K-3 on arrival to Kobe by ship. We "lost the starboard engine" about half way to Pusan an had to wait there for another boxcar to come and haul us the rest of the way to K-3. The best ride I had was going on R&R on a R4D that was supposedly Gen. McGee's plane. It was slow but smooth. Went into Taegue as a port of entry (after the truce it as required) and the Air Force Col. came out and got all bent out of shape because he wanted to talk to the Officer in charge of the plane and the only officers we had aboard were passengers. The complete crew was enlisted. He threatened to throw the wh le bunch of us in the brig.
