RARE ONBOARD PUBLICATION OF THE U.S.S. CALIFORNIA "THE CUB" DATED NOVEMBER 15,1945, WORLD WAR II AND NAMED "HOMEWARD BOUND".

CAPTAIN L.Y.V MASON,JR.-COMMANDING OFFICER, COMMANDER A.B. MAYFIELD-EXECUTIVE OFFICER, LT. COMMANDER W.J. KENEALY-OFFICER IN CHARGE.

THIS IS A GREAT PUBLICATION ABOUT THE BATTLES OF THE U.S.S CALIFORNIA, IT'S WAR KILLS, AND TRAVELS, ILLUSTRATIONS BY SGT R.W. CUNNINGHAM-USMC, AND R.L. YEROSHEK.
THIS EDITION IS DEDICATED TO THE SHIP'S FALLEN COMRADES:

Webmaster's note: On 6 January 1945, while providing shore bombardment at Lingayen Gulf, the CALIFORNIA was hit by a kamikaze plane; 44 of her crew were killed and 155 were wounded. Undeterred she made temporary repairs on the spot and remained on station carrying out her critical mission of shore bombardment until the job was done. I assume that 44 of these 61 men were those involved.
