The Aviación de la Gendarmería was created on October 8, 1955 with 3 I.A.20 Boyero planes.
Today it's main role is to perform counter-drug operations in the northern frontiers of Argentina. Due to the distances involved the use of aircrafts is mandatory.
The main equipments in use today are the Pilatus PC-6 Turbo Porter, the Aérospatiale SA-315C Lama and the 5 locally built RACA/Hughes 500 C/D. Also are used some Piper L-21B, Cessna 206, Piper Navajo, Piper Cheyenne and Helibras HB-350 Esquilo .
None of the aircrafts of the Aviación de la Gendarmería is armed. They are used to transport armed troops thought.
The main base for this organisation is B.A. Campo de Mayo.
