The Wabash County Sheriff's Detective Bureau is manned by three officers:

Detective Captain Barry R Hicks
Detective Sergeant Mike Shrider
Detective Steve Hicks

The duties of the Detectives are:

Handling all criminal investigations
In charge of all crimes scenes
Control of the storage of all evidence and property
Transporting all evidence to the lab(s)
Charge of all case reports
Drug investigations
Of course with such a small department the Wabash County Deputies handed a LOT of their own case work. There is no way with over 500 to 600 cases worked by the Department each and every year could three officers handed such a case load. The three Detectives have been well trained in areas to preform their duties, and continue their training today. Detective Sergeant Shrider and Detective S Hicks do most of the investigations, while Captain B Hicks has other duties within the department. The Wabash County Sheriff's Department has worked cases in the following areas:
- Murder
- Burglaries
- Thefts
- Murder for hire attempts
- Drug dealers
- Batteries
- Etc
Uncleared crimes

The Wabash County Detectives work a "normal" shift, and one is on call each and every week to assist any officer. The Wabash County Detectives, and the Wabash County Sheriff's Department believes in working with other departments and sharing information and resources.
