Question:
While checking your crime stats I noticed a great increase in drugs. What is the reason for this, did a major dealer move into your area, or are people just reporting more?

Answer:
Simply answered: NO. The reason for the increase is that Sheriff Roberts made drug investigation a priority for the department. He started the department with the Koscuisko County Drug Task Force, a means of obtaining money to finance drug buys, and by doing so he was able to obtain federal funding to hire a new officer. He has provided training for all officers in drug investigations and all officers are more aware of what to look for and what to do when they find drugs. The reason for the increase in drugs on our crime stats, is the department had made that many arrests and conducted their own investigations. And of course the public has helped with supplying information.

Question:
How many vehicles does your department have?

Answer:
Each officer has his own vehicle, and we have two reserve squad cars. All the vehicles are fully marked, except for the Sheriff and the two Detectives. The unmarked cars still have red/blue lights, sirens and police radios. We will, in time, have photos of the department's cars on our home page.

Question:
Do you use a take home program for your patrol officers?

Answer:
Yes, all officers are assigned a vehicle and take it home. They are allowed to use it off duty in the county, and must have their radios on and be able to respond to calls. Our department, being small in numbers, has had officers respond to numerous calls for help while off duty.

Question:
What weapons does your department use?

Answer:

Glocks, 40 cal. They are issued by the department, and all officers shoot once a month. Every officer is also issued a 40 cal rifle, which is secured in their squad cars. Non-lethel means or weapons includes pepper spray.

Question:
I have been told something about "police scouts", what is this?

Answer:
We hope to have a page on the scouts soon! Police Scouts are school age young adults that are interested in a career in law enforcement, or just have an interest in how law enforcement works. To properly answer this, we will try to get this page soon online.

Question:
What are the plans for this web page?

Answer:
In time we hope to add the police scouts page, photos of the officers and vehicles, as well as photos of the jail itself, a list of all the ex-Sheriffs and dates served, and keep updating calls for service, warrants, crime reports and others. If you have any thing you would like to see us add or do, please contact us!
