in the 70s in the US Army.
He retired from the Wabash City Police Department, after 20 years of service, where he was a detective for the department.
He then was elected Sheriff and took office in January 1995. After taking office he stressed education, team work, an effort to work on halting crime (and when not be able to do this, working harder on clearing crime reported to us) and sharing information with other departments. The officers are now better trained and are still gaining information. He started our K-9 program, he started us with Koscuisko County Sheriff's Department in a joint effort to fight drugs, he obtained a federal grant, paying for an officer for 3 years, he started the detective bureau, and he has made the Wabash County Sheriff's Department into a modern department that can be looked at with pride and the knowledge that we have the tools to do our jobs.
Sheriff Roberts is married to his wife, Pam, and had two children. One son is deceased and the other, Cory is an officer with the Porland Oregon Police Department and is married. Sheriff Roberts loves hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. We have noticed that he likes to tell "big ones" about his experiences in the woods and on the lakes.
Sheriff Roberts is a graduate of the Indianapolis Police Department Detective School and the New Sheriff's School and is a continuing education student at IPFW. He has recieved specialized training in arson investigation and natural disaster planning.
He serves on the board of the White Rocks Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and is a member of the Optimist Club. Sheriff Roberts is president of Tru-angle Hones, Inc.
