Detective Sergeant

Mike Shrider

I joined the Wabash County Sheriff's Department in 1992 as a reserve Deputy and served in that capacity until February of 1994 when I was sworn on as a Merit Deputy. I currently hold the rank of Detective Sergeant and work drug and other criminal cases. I am assigned to the Wabash- Kosciusko County Drug Task Force as well as working closely with the surrounding counties. In the future I hope to be able to put some pictures on this page showing past drug seizures from our county. I share the responsibility of Firearms instructor with Deputy Ron Nordman, Deputy Nordman instructs the handgun training while I conduct the Rifle and Tactical training. I am the Chief advisor to the Explorer Scouts along with Deputy Rick Monce.

TRAINING:
Every police officer in the state of Indiana is rerquired to complete a set ammount of training each year. The following is a list of some of the training I have had: Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Class 94-118, Certified Law Enforcement Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Glock Armorer School, Cocaine and Street Level Drugs, Managing Narcotic Investigations, Tactical Surveilance, Crime Scene Investigator School, Field Tactical Police Operations, Bombs and Explosive Devices, Boobytraps School, Remington Armorers School, Identi-Kit, Intoxilizer Operator, and Crime Scene Photography School.

PERSONAL:
I am married and live in Wabash with my wife Jennifer and our two daughters Kristin (5) and Hayley (2 1/2). During my time off I enjoy hunting, fishing, skeet and trap shooting, and horse back riding.

I enjoy working for the Sheriff's Dept. because we are small enough that we are like a family. We often plan events togeather or get togeather on the spur of the moment. Below is an example of the types of things that happen here. Two baby tigers were brought into the department for us to see and we were able to bring in our children to see them. Deputy Jon McDonald helps my daughter, Kristin, feed one of the tigers.
