It's official now! The Great War Historical Society was the most dominant presence at Old Fort MacArthur Days on July 10th - 12th. Once again, the G.W.H.S. recieved an award for the best encampment best women's impression, and best men's impression. In addition to all this, the Imperial German forces were given special recognition at the closing ceremonies. Each of the remaining Soldaten recieved a red ribbon. During the course of the weekend, there were 35 Great War re-enactors participating in the event. The Imperial German forces totaled 17 Soldaten. Remarkably, 3 stalwart Canadians drove over 6 hours, one way, just to be a part of this event. It is extremely encouraging to see this kind of support for time line events. As time progresses there is an increasing interest in the First World War and the preservation of its history.

The weaponry alone was impressive, within the Great War section. There were 5 machine guns, 3 Stokes mortars, several rifles fixed with cup launchers, dozens of grenades, and a wide assortment of small arms. This arsenal made it possible to use machine guns for both sides in the battle demonstrations. The G.W,H.S. recieved many compliments for its skirmishes on both days.

This truely was an enjoyable event. No matter what your contribution, whether you showed up for a few hours and had to borrow equipment, or if you stayed two and a half days and loaned out kit to Neu Rekruten, everyone had a part in making this event a success. On October 3 - 4, we wil have another opportunity to showcase the Great War at the 'Marching Through History' event at Irvine Regional Park. Danke schon!
