MY TOUR OF DUTY
My name is
Sergeant Walter Cleveland Harder IV. I was born in Beaumont,
Texas on October 30,1959.
I joined the United States Marine Corps on January 30,1980. Went
to boot camp in San Diego, California platoon #2016 Echo Company.
Graduated boot camp in May 1980.Went to Courthouse bay, Camp Le
June, North Carlina to start my Electrical Equipment Repairman
training (MOS # 1142). Graduated October 1980.
Received my first set of real orders to Engineer maintenance
Company, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Camp Hansen, Okinawa,
Japan. Spent my first 4 years here. During that time I was
stationed at Camp Fuji, Japan, Subic Bay, Phillippines Pusan,
Korea. Reenlisted in October 1983 for 4 more years.
Then transferred to 9th Comm. battalion, Camp Pendleton Ca. From
there I was on operation Bright Star 85. On that operation went
to several different countries like Germany, Spain, Morocco and
finally Egypt. In Egypt we were 50 miles from Libby while Kadafi
was pulling all of his crap.
After that operation I reenlisted for 3 more years and
transferred back to Camp Foster, 3rd Force Service Support Group,
Okinawa, Japan where I spent the next 2 years.
After that tour in Japan I was transferred back to the states to
7th Engineers 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton,
Ca. During that time we went to Istanbul, Turkey. After I got
back from Turkey I was discharged on June 9, 1989.
My Awards are as follows: Navy Achievement Medal, meritorious
Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal w/2 stars, Sea
Service Deployment Ribbon w/3 stars, Navy and Marine Corps
Overseas Service Ribbon w/1 star, and lastly 8th award rifle
Expert.
