I served aboard the Le Ray Wilson from 1955 until 1958. I was a second class boiler operator, in the forward boiler room. We didn't do much except run abound in the South Pacific. We played a lot of war games with submarines. It was fun. We were in several bad storms, and the ship would bury the bow completely under water. The worst roll I saw was 47 degrees to port. I enjoyed my time aboard the Wilson, and always think of those days with good memories.

My dad (William Rochelle Moore) served on the USS LeRay Wilson in the post Korean War era. Dad served in the engine room, but made sure to become very good friends with the cook. Dad told me many stories about his port-a-calls and ship board life. Great site.

I served for one year on the best destroyer I thought. She left me with great memoies, my Shellback card as well as some moves I had shot while aboard. New Zealand to Japan and a lot of points in between. It was a pleasure to be part of her crew.

Great site! My dad is Norman Nelsen, and served on the Wilson Mar. 1953 - Mar.1955. He would love to hear from others in the wardroom at that time. The Navy remains a high point of his life! Send interest to me, I will forward. Thank you! Also any reunion info would be great.

Very nice up-grade. I enjoyed reading the 1st person account in Tokyo bay. It is so nice that others are contributing a bit of history that we would never have known about. One correction, Dad wintered over at Byrd Station, Antartica not Mc Murdo.

Good write-up. Just need clarify minor point. Went to Radioman B school in 59 as TE(RM)1, advanced to Chief Radioman in late 59. Picked up the gold in 62. Stuck finger in saw in 99. It is healing - can do most of the work. Keep up the good work. You're doing great. Dad

Great website! My father,Roy A Richter, served in WWII on the Leray Wilson. I'd like more info or update info. Is there any? He was 36 or 37 at that time. I think they called him "Pops". He was a range finder. If anyone out there in cyber-space has any recollection, please contact me. Dad is still living, but in a nursing home and not doing well.
