I am not a Vet., but I come from a long line of Veterans who served our Nation with HONOR, DUTY, COUNTRY. Veterans who served in Country an Stateside are my Heroes and my Teachers. I have a special place for all who have served including my Dad during WWII. He was in the Navy's 7th fleet. He was a coxwain of an LST. He was in the South Pacific involving the Island Hopping of the Phillipines nd etc. He was the first wave at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the fight for Leyte. He was at Red Beach off the island of Leyte when Gen. Douglas MacArthur returned with his "I have returned speach." He was on his way back from picking up troops heading to Okina a for the allied invasion of Japan, when the typhoons off the coase of Okinawa crippled his LST. They were not resued until after both bombs had been dropped. Needless to say he was stunned what had happened when he and his group were rescued. To learn th t the war was over was a welcome shock. But, I have to tell you that all Vietnam Vets. have another special place in my heart. Oh, how all of you have taught me to stand up and fight not only for my rights, but for the rights of others, for which I am ext emely grateful. I joined the Army in 1975 two years active and then spent the rest of my 21 years in the Guard. My unit was deployed to the Gulf. No contact we spent 72 hours there and then was sent home. I retired at the rank SFC I was the proud platoon sargent of the best Damn 81mm mortar platoon in the world. When we were deployed we were all nervous but when we hit the sand We all were calm because we were confinate in each other, we have always crossed trained so if! Anyone could pick up the slack. I know that Special Forces and the Rangers have always had an ongoing battle as who's the toughest. In 1968 I was a team leader of a 5 man LRRP team which was overran by a battalion of North Vietnamese just outside of North Viet Nam. My four other team members fell and lost their lives and I was taken captive by the NVA. Through intelligence, they found where they were moving me and 2 "A" teams and one Ranger team pull d an ambush and took down 21 NVA and then some guy from the SF, picked me up, threw me over his shoulders and ran like hell to a huey. God Bless you for serving, for now and forever you shall always be my friend, even though we don't know each other. If I can help you in any way, shape or form, please feel free to call upon me because I am an American, and like you, my great-great grandfather fought for the Civil War for the confederacy and everybody in my family from that day forward has fought on the sho es of Iwo Jima, Normandy and we have a true and proud American Heritage.
