Radiology Department This department
is the primary center for diagnostic imaging. Facilities
available are that of conventional radiology, CT Scanning
and Mammography.
Dermatology
Department
The
Dermatology Department is established in Jun 1987. This
department
provides medical care in all areas of management of acute
and chronic skin
diseases.
Food
Service Unit
The Food
Service Unit prepares regular meals and therapeutic meals
for
patients in wards. Apart from this it also provides diet
counseling to
outpatients referred by doctors and diet prescription to
patients in the
wards. Courses and lectures on food are given to
patients, nurses, students
of nursing college and midwifery college and other
institutions. The unit
also provides catering practices to trainees from MARA
Technology Institute
and Malaysia National University.
Chest
Clinic
The
Chest Clinic is the registration center for all
tuberculosis cases
in Malacca. It keeps all records on every tuberculosis
patient in Malacca.
This clinic provides health education to all tuberculosis
patients,
tuberculosis contacts and their families.
The Chest Clinic also manages all the treatments and
outpatient
services on tuberculosis including appointments and
revisions. It also
provides anti tuberculosis medicines and tuberculosis
program cards to all
medical centers and wards.
This clinic is the referral center on specialist
services. It also has
a special lab to examine sputum examples and AFB Culture
Research.
Occupational
Therapy Department
Since
1988, the Occupational Therapy Department is one of the
important rehabilitation units in the Hospital.
Occupational therapies are
not only given to cases in units but also to cases
referred from district
hospitals and private hospitals. Special treatment
clinics such as Hand
Clinic, Spinal Clinic, Diabetic Clinic and others are
opened to those who
need the occupational therapy service.
Besides providing those services, this department also
gives medical
education to patients and lectures to post basic trainee
and training
nurse. The Occupational Therapy Department also
supervises training nurses
and training of occupational therapists that are doing
their clinical
practices.
Nursing
Department
The
nursing department consists of 790 staffs in all
different categories.
The nursing services provided are professional such as
according to the "
Individualized Care Plan" that had been launched in
Malacca Hospital on
1996. Until now, the nursing standard arranged had been
optimised through
plannings, conducting of courses and inductions that
upgrades the quality
of service. The nursing unit is standing still in
providing qualified
services upholding a vision of "CARING,
PROFESSIONALISM AND TEAMWORK".
Physiotherapy
Unit
This
unit was first established on 1959 to give physical
treatments to
patients. It functions as an alternative to allophaty
treatment as well as
help to physically ill people. The treatment provided
were such of
habilitative and rehabilitative treatments for handicap
cases since birth
or caused by trauma or diseases. Treatments were done in
a routine and
given according to what is best to patients in order to
progress.

Outpatient Unit The Outpatient
Department gives basic medical treatment to people all
over
Malacca. In certain cases patients are sent to the
Outpatient Specialist
Clinic. This department also gives health education
lectures to patients
especially who have diabetes, hypertension and other
chronic diseases.
Malacca
Midwifery School
This school was built on 1st February 1982. Its purpose
is to give
midwifery course to the nurse from the Ministry of
Health, Corporate and
Defence sectors. Theoritical and practical sessions are
conducted from this
school.
Otorhinolaryngology
Department
The
Otorhinolaryngology Department started its service in
1974.
Besides providing services for Malacca residents, this
department also
provides services to people from nearby areas. Services
are provided to
outpatients and patients in the wards. Surgeries are done
to cases that
need them. Medical education on otorhinolaryngology is
also given to
patients whenever it is needed.
Supervisory
Division
Malacca
Hospital Supervisory Division is a unit that handles the
Clinical Management, Transportation Management, Security
and Traffic,
Cleanliness and Landscape, Uniforms, Public Toilet Care
and Pest Control in
Malacca Hospital.
The Supervisory Division is responsible of providing
supporting
services and coordination in the aspect of paramedic
staffs' work
supervision and also medical assistants, drivers, medical
workers and
security guards which includes managing, and deployment
of posts to improve
the ability of coordination, implementation and
enforcement in order to
increase the service quality.
Orthopedic
Department
The
Orthopedic Department was first established in Malacca
Hospital on
1967. Many changes have been made since then but this
department had
maintained their excellence in orthopedic treatments and
aspire to be the
Regional Center of Excellence.
Nursing
School
The
Malacca Hospital Nursing provides basic training of
nurses from all over Malaysia. Incorporated in the
training are theoritical as well as practical experiences
in the Malacca Hospital. A 3-year training programme will
cover all aspects of nursing care. Upon completion, the
nurses are posted to hospitals all over the country. The
nursing school is well-equipped with all training
facilities and complimented by dedicated nursing tutors.
It is an accredited nursing training institution for
Malaysia.
Phatology
Department
This
largest department in Malacca Hospital. It consists 7
units under it
that provide services during and after office hours. The
units that work
after office hours ares the chemical phatology unit,
haematology unit,
forensics and also microbiology.
Surgery
Department
This
department plays an important role in the hospital and
works together
with other departments in the hospital to provide
surgical treatment to
patients. It is complimented with 4 rooms for elective
cases and another
one for emergency cases.
Medical
Welfare UnitEnglish officers first
established this unit in Malacca Hospital on 1947.
The services provided in this unit were actually for
clients only. The
activities and treatments of this unit were more likely
to be of
rehabilitation therapy under the "Total Patient
Care" concept. The main
objective of this unit is to help their clients solve
psychosocial problems
and rehabilitate them to fit the surrounding environment.
Treatments
provided include support therapy, practical help and
general help.
