This page has focus on PBEM, but deals with soloplay as well. It contains strategyarticles, files for the PBEM-campaign and the illustrated history of my own PBEM campaign.
Also some PGII articles have been added, but the main part is still about PGI.
Just a few minor utilities or
texts for a number of games I also enjoyed: Deadlock I, RRT2 (demoversion), Transport Tycoon,
Diplomacy (board game) and No Greater Glory.
Calculate your score. (Excel format) Multiplayer games can be lengthy. In the end you just HAVE to go to sleep, but who wins then? Use this Excel-form to calculate each players score or your score in a singleplayer game if you wish to compare how well you are doing in different games.
Technology tree. (Excel format) A research tree in the well known style from so many other games like Civ. A short list of unit data is also included.
Railroad Tycoon II
Cape Fear.(saved game, DEMO VERSION) Try to reconstruct this RR company and turn itīs negative cashflow of an incredible 10 million $ into a profit. This should be a no-win-scenario, but can you make it anyway?
This is a saved game from the Cape to Cairo scenario. The situation is
this: I had build up a reasonable RR company covering most parts of a
north/south line through Africa. It was running with a small profit.
About 1915 I decided to make a run for it and issued stocks and bonds to
pay for the investment of the last connecting pieces of track. The cost
of the interest gradually turned the running profit into a loss and
after loosing one C-C express in a crash, time was running out. Just one
month before reaching Cairo, I was sacked (Thanks a lot everybody!).
Having no confidence in the shareholders commitee, I sold off all my
stocks and sure enough: the company soon build up an even larger loss.
It was actually declared bankruptcy, but kept running (different laws in
Africa I guess???). Eventually the stockprice fell to 10$ and I bought
back 51% and assumed chairmanship. The year is 1932 and the original
goal is of course lost, but the job now is to reengineer the company so
that it can run with a profit. The company also has a lot of bonds that
expire in 1948...
In short itīs a managers hell but a BPR-consultants heaven."
Transport Tycoon
Tired of the massive random maps with tons of traffic and enourmous cities? Try this one instead then. It's an archipelago of small islands. I made it with the map editor that comes with version 1.07. I don't have any other version so I don't know if it will work with all versions (tell me if you find out please!), but I suppose it should be OK for at least TT deluxe as well. Here is the scenario file and this is a save file (saved scenario with no actions taken).
In case you would like to play in Europe, I made a scenario file and here's a normal save file. It's not a very detailed piece of work, but still enjoyable, I hope.
NOTE: All files are zipped. If you unzip these files directly to the tt-directory it may overwrite your own scenarios/saves, so make a back-up.
Diplomacy
A lot of utilities are available to help you if you play Diplomacy via PBEM. Most of them focus on some sort of board, but unfortunately most of them also take nearly a PhD to use. When I played Diplomacy, I decided to do it the simple way. This zip-file consist of two files: a simple bitmap file and an Excel spredsheat. If you are at spring 1901, skip step 1.
1) Open the .bmp file and edit it in any graphics program (e.g. Paint). Use it to change territory colors (using an autofill function). Save it (under a new name).
2) Open the Excel spreadsheet. Mark the background map and delete unless it's spring 1901. Position cursor at A1. Choose insert picture and select the map .
3) To move units, simply click-draw them. To insert new ones copy and paste from the list of units to the right side.
Sounds like a lot of work? Well, it's a piece of manual work to be honest, but the good part is, that you're in total control of it. But you of course need Excel...
No Greater Glory
Excellent, unique
walk-through of the first few turns of the Union campaign. I you're at a
complete loss even after several games of how to avoid an early defeat, this
walkthrough is for you.
What's the point, I hear you say? It's fairly simple: I present here info,
strategy and some utilities for games that I like. As simple as that.
I guess
I should rephrase it into some long description in advanced language. Or post
pictures of my pets (if I had any). That seems to be the standard at other
private gamepages. No wait, strike that - it's just a rant.
No, just kidding. I deleted it. The cheap sh** keeps
discontinuing their services and I refuse to pay for one ;) GeocitiesYahoo
offers some internal counting and it showed about 25k visits last I checked.
